The horror film Oculus stars Karen Gillan and Brenton Thwaites as siblings who discover that a cursed 300-year-old mirror may have killed their parents. Katee Sackhoff and Rory Cochrane co-star. Mike Flanagan directed from a script he co-wrote with Jeff Howard, based on a previous short film.

Doesn't look very good, but it was pretty wild to hear Gillan talk with an American accent.

I saw Oculus as part of the Midnight Midnight Programme during the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. Terrific film, and I highly recommend seeing it.

I don't really dig most of the new horror movies, but Gillan is enough to get me to watch this one.

It must be pretty good, considering that Facebook saw fit to buy the distribution rights.

If I'm not mistaken I believe WWE Studios & Relativity Media only picked up this film for distribution. It was originally released by Intrepid Pictures.
WWE Films seems to love Canada right now, as I believe the Soska Sisters are working on 'See No Evil 2'.

This is even playing at the local ArcLight theaters here, so looks like it got a nice distribution push. I think I reviewed Absentia and it was mediocre due to the budget or lack thereof. I hear this one is much better and has a decent budget.

Saw it earlier in the day. For the most part, I enjoyed it. I think that the playing around with timelines near the end kind of hurt it a bit, but that wasn't a major deal breaker.
This is actually based on a short that director Mike Flanagan did back in 2006. Kind of interesting to learn that. Here is the trailer for that one...

I thought this was an average horror film - a few good jumps and good atmosphere. I felt like the plot let a lot of things just drop (such as the
Also, I understand the motivation of the main female, and her prep to make sure the fates of the victims didn't happen to her as well, but (IMO) something just seemed to be missing as everything started to happen.

Guess that is saved for a sequel?
