Top moments in comic books

The "what made you cry" thread got me thinking about what everyone's top moments in comic books are. Meaning you just had to stop reading and burn that image, that dialog, or that scene, in your head. Epic win, epic defeat, or whatever you care to share.

A few that stuck with me:

Daredevil vs. Nuke:

Spoiler:

Doom in hell just being a badass:

Spoiler:

Ending of Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe:

Spoiler:

Bullseye kills Electra... Just a stunningly well structured fight:

Spoiler:

Lori's fate in The Walking Dead. I'm not going to post a picture of it, because it needs to be read in context.

Off the top of my head, 2 Punisher bits.

Punisher: The Cell was just a great, great one shot. The entire ending is brilliant.

"I'm going to start the killing now."

Punisher: The End. Again, another great one shot. The last scene after Frank
Spoiler:
kills the Coven, possibly the last people on Earth, he strangles the man who lead him to the secret base. Even tho this man is already dying of radiation poisoning, Frank strangles him anyways.

Re: Top moments in comic books

There are a ton of great reveals I could have posted for this thread but I think those would be unfair to newer readers. A lot of the great narrative works rely on surprises such as Watchmen and Miracleman.

Batman punching Guy Gardner and the reaction:

The epic fight between Captain Marvel and Superman in Kingdom Come, the first time that Captain Marvel was ever treated fairly in a fight against Superman:

I think this panel is one of the big reasons why Wolverine became such a popular character, it's a great moment straight out of an action movie as he has just been dumped in the sewers of the Hellfire Club by himself:

I was actually a little surprised because past anniversary issues (25, 50, 75) didn't really have any big moments. So having one in 100 did surprise me.

For Watchmen I'll just say "I did it thirty-five minutes ago."

^ Yes! That's a great moment.
Spoiler:
The panel after with Nite Owl and Rorschach looking dumbfounded is perfect. After everything, they're too late and there's nothing they can do.

It would have been way more shocking for me had it happened in 101. Just sayin'.

Re: Top moments in comic books

I would say:

-Bane breaking Batman's back

-Lois cradling Superman's bloody body.

-Magneto pulling the adamantium out of Wolverine's body.

-The Punisher punching a bear in Welcome Back Frank

Re: Top moments in comic books

The first Vietnam story in Preacher, more specifically when Jesse coincidentally runs into Space and they have that initial conversation. Great to have him meet someone who knew his dad.

From The Walking Dead: Abraham and Rick going back to Rick's hometown to look for supplies, their bonding as well as the escape.

Even though it's probably been retconned or whatever, Peter finally talking to Aunt May about being Spider-Man from 2001 or so, which even poked fun at his idiotic "the shock would make her keel over and die" excuse. That was a great conversation.

Yeah, I felt the same. I was bummed out, but not surprised. As far as death's in that series;

Spoiler:
Lori's, as mentioned before. And maybe Tyrese's shocked me. That was a period where I plowed through about 60-70 issues of Walking Dead in a weekend, and just felt wrecked by the time i stopped.

In the Marvel world, Wolverine's adamantium was a big deal to me since I was really young at the time.

Re: Top moments in comic books

Wolverine vs The Brood.

I don't know if anyone else remembers this. It was at the very beginning of the dark age. Up until then, it was a big deal when someone really got hurt. Electra had not been created, and Punisher was a guest villain. Wolverine was a psycho killer with lethal weaponry. There was a real danger that he would go bonkers and kill Kitty Pryde because she was eating her corn flakes too loud. But he had spent two or three years of real time fighting those impulses.

Then the whole team except Wolverine was captured by a new alien race called the Brood. Since everyone else was infected or dead, Wolverine let the leash slip. That was the first time that he said he would do "what he does best". The artist didn't even bother to draw any fight scenes: there was just a long-shot panel showing a trail of dead bodies.

I'd never seen anything like it.

I actually got the original inked art page from that issue with the two of them leaning against a car.

I remember it, it was way more violent than what I had seen before in Marvel comics.
