The Vampire Diaries -- 100th episode -- "500 Years of Solitude" -- 1/23/14

Synopsis:

THE 100th EPSIODE: FLASHBACKS TO KATHERINE'S EARLY LIFE - As she faces a new crisis, Katherine (Nina Dobrev) remembers the traumatic night in 1490 when she gave birth to the daughter who was immediately taken from her. Stefan (Paul Wesley) lets Elena, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) know that Katherine's health has taken a turn for the worse, while Damon (Ian Somerhalder) Matt (Zach Roerig) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) discuss some of Katherine's most notorious moments. Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) comes up with a frightening plan to protect her mother, and Stefan and Elena are forced to help her. Meanwhile, Caroline is mortified when she realizes she forgot to fill Elena in on the latest shocking gossip, then indulges in a little scandalous behavior of her own. Finally, Elena and Katherine share an unexpected moment of connection. Chris Grismer directed the episode written by Julie Plec & Caroline Dries (#511).

This was pretty good episode if not a bit predictable at the end. After the last episode I wasn't sure they would be able to get back on track.

Well, the Tyler debate ends.

So when is this episode supposed to take place in contrast to The Originals?

I enjoyed this episode, even if the twist at the end was predictable.

Enjoyed having so many characters show up again. If only Lexi had showed up, it would've been perfect.

Klaus & Caroline. I love those 2 kids together.

How far has this show fallen, for only three comments to appear after a semi-important episode? It was nice to see the old characters return, but they have pulled them back at various times before so it wasn't quite as special.

I wasn't that surprised they pulled that stunt at the end, though I was hoping it would have gone in another direction.

I don't recall the show ever being that popular here. Hmmmm could be remembering wrong.

I was really hoping to not have that swerve at the end. It kind of cheapened the episode for me, but then again, it's Katherine.

I agree the twist at the end was obvious. However, that's a double insult for this show. It did so well to shake things up and make it a point to go left whenever you were expecting it to go right. Now it just seems to take the predictable path.

That said - I wonder if there will be repercussions to having a double doppelganger. I'm sure that breaks some kind of rule.

I liked the self humor with the "take a shot if Katherine screwed you over". Really served to highlight how much ground this show has covered. Then again, it reinforces what it isn't any longer.
