This is my Holy Grail. I imagine it's a joke and I refuse to read the link or get my hopes up. I'm going to cry now in preparation for the inevitable disappointment.

I finally watched A Star Is Born recently and the reconstructed scenes with still photos and the audio track was jarring, mostly unnecessary, and yanked me out of the film to the point where I watched the rest of the film from the point of an observer, never again really 'in the moment'. I expect this will be much like that.
But it's great that the fans of the film will get to finally see some of this mythic footage.
Extras sound great as well.

I hadn't been following the news of it's Criterion release and took the thread title to mean that a fullest roadshow edition had been found.

Though the regular version on the Criterion is a longer cut than the MGM blu - or does the Criterion just have a longer intermission?

Don't know what these scenes being restored for the first time are, however, the 2 tape widescreen vhs version was the full length roadshow version. The dvd, and probably the common blu are the same shorter print that TCM airs.
Where Eagles Dare is the same way. All vhs versions, which are fullscreen, are the full length version with overture and intermission. All widescreen versions: TCM, DVD, and blu, are missing the overture and intermission.

Jonathan Winters is the master of facial expressions - he cracks me up... can't wait to dive into the 197min reconstructed version.

so I watched it yesterday - and I have to say even with all it's warts and all, the 'reconstruction' is admirable and very enjoyable - finally! one extra scene with Buster Keaton (in audio form) even in the shortened theatrical cut he's barely in it.
