Plot: In The Judge, big city lawyer Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town's judge (Robert Duvall), is suspected of murder. He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before.

The horrible Coldplay-esque music they use in trailers for "feel-good" and "heartwarming" movies like this just makes them even less appealing.

Soooo I am the only one who saw it this weekend? Overall I enjoyed it. Lots of drama and a few plot lines that were not in the trailer.

I saw it on Friday, thought it was okay. Weird to see David Krumholtz in it for like 5 seconds, with a weight gain at that. Plus I would have liked if Vincent D'onofrio's character was told about

He had gained a lot of weight a a couple of f years ago. He had a cameo in an episode of The League last season and he was nearly unrecognizable in This is the End. A lot of it has come off, but I don't know what happened to him if he was sick or if he just gorged his brains out.

Saw this yesterday. Story is pretty standard fare, but the performances of Downey and Duvall make it mostly worthwhile.

I want to check this out. It does look fairly by the numbers going off the trailers but it has a really good cast so I'm interested in seeing it.

Watched this last night via HBO-Go. Surpassed my expectations as the acting was top notch by Downey and Duvall. Also enjoyed seeing Vera Farmiga on the screen again. As disclosed in the trailer, there's a disgruntled/estranged father-son dynamic going on which adds much drama and lends itself to the meatiness of the roles. Billy Bob Thornton puts in a good supporting role as well. Recommended.

The plot was fairly generic, but as Jack Straw said, it's worth a watch for the performances. RDJ and Duvall are terrific, Billy Bob Thornton is also very good.

It's a typical "successful son returns to hometown and has family conflicts" story, but there is some good legal drama which might have failed with lesser actors, but as it is it holds up.

I was starting to watch this on HBO but the channel kept cutting in and out so I didn't finish it. From what I saw it didn't look that bad to me. Kind of generic but has a lot of good actors in it. I'll probably finish it at some point.
