Mythbusters 2014 Season
Mythbusters is kicking off a new season January 4th, 2014 with a 1 hr Star Wars special.
Some of the promo pics look fun, let's hope they do better than the walking dead special, where it was more costumes than any real thought or effort put into testing any myths.

Better question, is the show on its last legs? Why would Discovery move it to Saturday nights? It went from Sundays to Wednesdays (or was the other way around?) and now Saturdays.

Wiki shows that they aired two Sydney special shows, car chase chaos/animal avoidance and traffic tricks at the end of 2013 season. Any idea why they were Sydney shows only and how do I see them?

i think this show is immune to ratings. it's pretty much the staple for Discovery and it'll get seen no matter where they put the show.

I thought it was a fun show - but thought that the logs used for the test could have been smaller.

I'm watching this now and I'm disappointed that they tried to hide the obvious harness that Sophia was wearing during the swing stunt. They should have more respect for the audience.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what they were "busting" in that aspect...maybe that a pendulum actually works? Otherwise all it was really about was the coolness of recreating that scene full scale.

To me the myth was if a grappling hook would be able to catch around the pipe / thing and if it would support 2 people swinging across. The rest of the myth was more for the 'look'

I thought it was a fun show. I've been getting a little tired of some of the "myths" they've been using of late, but I've always enjoyed their movie based shows. Oh, and this:

Yeah, some seem to think that sexy nerd is the new sexy librarian. But truthfully in the Venn Diagram of sexiness, the librarian is a subset of the nerd superset, thus:
Sexy Nerds ⊃ Sexy Librarians
Sexy Nerds ⊃ Sexy Librarians

To me it was interesting because I never thought of that scene as being particularly amazing or notable. He throws the hook, grabs the girl and swings. I never thought about the strain that would put on the belt and your ribs, how hard that throw would be, etc.

Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage have fabricated a new TV concept. The Mythbusters guys are partnering for a new Discovery special that takes their talent for building awesomely destructive gadgets and crosses it with kids’ playtime. The result: Dangerous Toys, a one-hour special produced by Hyneman and Savage.
The special takes a kids’ fort-battle game and blows it up with adult-sized concoctions. Hyneman and Savage will interview teens for ideas and build giant versions of child-play favorites — such as a 25-foot couch fort and explosive robotic armies — in an attempt to bring each other down. “It does mean we’re going to have to interact with children though,” Hyneman points out.
