Public Morals (TNT) - Series Thread - Created by & Starring Edward Burns

This summer, TNT is going to take viewers to the seedy, gritty streets and the bright, seductive lights of 1960s New York with Public Morals, a powerful, buzz-generating police drama from writer, director, executive producer and star Edward Burns (Saving Private Ryan, The Brothers McMullen, TNT's Mob City). Public Morals also stars Michael Rapaport (Justified, Prison Break) and Elizabeth Masucci (The Americans, Inside Amy Schumer). The series centers on Terry Muldoon (Burns), an officer of the Public Morals Division, which investigates vice crimes in the city. Many of Muldoon's fellow cops in the division walk a thin line between morality and crime as vice-related temptations threaten to snare even the best of officers, including Muldoon's partner, Charlie Bullman (Rapoport). As Muldoon watches the Hells Kitchen streets where he grew up devoured by an escalating war within two factions of the Irish-American Mob, he becomes more determined than ever to fight back against the city's dark underbelly so he can provide a safe place where he and his wife, Christine (Masucci), can raise their family.

Even though the subject said Edward Burns, I got my hopes up it was Ed Burns instead. I'll still give it a try, especially with Michael Rapaport on board.

I'm just so glad that they came up with an original theme!

This looks pretty damn good and the reviews are good at quite a few publications.

Surprised, based on the gritty trailer, that this is on basic cable.

DVR is set.

There is a new, and MUCH BETTER, trailer on their facebook page. It is TV-MA. The one that starts with the woman in the bathtub.

I can't get it to embed, so here's the link.

He's not listed in the cast in the OP, but I also saw that Brian Dennehy is in this. Ruben Santiago-Hudson is solid as well.

I already set this to record. I'm not the biggest Ed Burns fan, but I like dark and gritty crime dramas and this being a period one has me interested. Although the last period crime drama that aired on TNT, Mob City, from 2 years ago? was a bust.

I'd never watched an original series on TNT before tonight (or really on anything other than HBO, Showtime, FX, AMC), but I really enjoyed it.

This is a passion project for Edwards Burns. I thought it was well executed.

DID NOT LIKE! Had a shockingly humorous almost lighthearted vibe that shouldn't have existed. Thought this was supposed to be gritty!

I'm loving this show. Of course now I'll have to wait a month for them to catch up, but the first four episodes were great. I'm in for the season. Burns plays his typical sarcastic beantown self, but it works well here (as it did in some of his early movies). Solid cast all around.

I liked it, but I agree with you as I was expecting more of a gritty tone then a more sarcastic/humorous tone among the characters.

I'm a sucker for this genre, so I am pretty much in unless it really sucks.

Reminds me of Crime Story. I'm liking it so far. I hope they expand T-Bag's roll.

Re: Public Morals (TNT) - Series Thread - Created by & Starring Edward Burns

I just watched the pilot episode. I enjoyed the parts with Ed Burns and Michael Rappaport's characters but I was having a hard time keeping some of the other characters straight or understanding what their story was. Some of the other actors look similar and I had a harder time following their storylines. I might need to read a re-cap.

Just started episode 1

Was the blonde hooker/school teacher who was arrested the same actress who played the idiot blonde on 30 Rock? She looks really familiar.

Ed Burns seems to be playing his usual sarcastic type character. Really surprised to see Timothy Hutton on here considering he's already on American Crime.

I want to like this show but I can't remember the last time I liked Michael Rappaport in anything. The first two episodes were pretty strong. The retro vibe is nice.
