Daemon not saying anything about being locked up I can understand. However, not saying anything after weird stuff started happening was odd.

So Elena is now traveling back in time? I'm not sure I like the addition of time travel to VD's bag of plot tricks. It is a can of worms with such a convoluted backstory for each character.

I don't think that reveal at the end has anything to do with time travel. Just that the guy didn't die in the fire after all.

Maybe time changed in such a way that we have no idea that she went back in time. But then how does Phantom remember the time change? Perhaps he was outside the event horizon when time was changed making an alternate universe where only he remembers Elena going back in time?

Remember the stupid stopwatch they introduced in this episode with some hinted-at-magical properties? She just woke up in the past due to it. The editing was not that clear but I think we were supposed to believe that she had been transported back to the time of the other vampire's imprisonment.
