Carrie Underwood In "The Sound of Music" LIVE!
So is anyone watching this?
Hard to see them reciting lines that Julie Andrews and Chris Plummer made famous.
I don't mind remakes, but did this HAVE to be LIVE???
The acting is VERY stiff - particularly Underwood, but I give her credit for not having any acting training.

Yes, I'm recording it & will watch later in the week. Liked the original musical. Big fan of Carrie Underwood and her music as well. I think I saw a scene where she acted in that movie about the young surfer girl who lost her arm.
This is 3 hours long, so I doubt most here will have the interest or the time to watch.

IMO, the acting seems "stiff" to some because it's theatrical acting (projected voice, etc) rather than film-like acting.

I'm surprised there's not a live audience ... It almost feels like watching a dress rehearsal because it looks like a stage play but has no applause.

OK, I spoke too soon.
The more I watch, the more I'm warming up to it. Carrie's not doing such a bad job with the acting....
The singing is, of course, TOP NOTCH.
If this were a Sound of Music theater experience? I'd be VERY satisfied!

The casting did a great job in finding actors as MUCH as like the movie versions as possible.

Yes they should have had an audience but besides that I think it is really good.
They advertised the dvd will be for sale on the 17th, guess they forgot about bluray.

Also I think the oldest daughter is the best of the kids.
Did anyone see the making of last week, I think they changed one of the kids, the middle one looks different.

I saw a production of The Sound of Music at my local theater two years ago (Captain von Trapp played Phantom on Broadway for two years), and this is just like watching that, minus the audience reaction.
Can't wait to get the soundtrack tomorrow - a well-sung, modern recording of this classic musical.

I don't even like the film, so the wife having me watch this is painful. I think she is having a difficult time getting away from it.
The Twitter feed is priceless though!

Watched about 15 minutes during halftime of a game I was watching.
It was weird seeing what's basically a stage play on tv. I agree with everyone else, one, this would be awesome live, and two, they needed an audience. As it stands, the stage like line delivery just doesn't work.

I'm recording this to watch later when I'm home and can watch it on my sound system. I could watch at work but this through TV speakers just doesn't seem right.

Not a fan of the movie, so I skipped it. If they do West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Godspell, or a lot of others, I'd be there.

Am I the only one that hopes this is successful so that next year we get Scrooge Live, with Mary Lou Retton and Jamie Farr?

Wow, some of you really cut this show some slack. Call it what you want -- stage acting, whatever -- but it was generally bad. Carrie Underwood sang well enough, but her acting was terribly wooden, as was Moyer's. About the only person who came across as competent was the one playing the Reverend Mother.
I agree that a live audience would've made this feel more natural.
Did anyone catch any goofs? I only saw two -- when Moyer and one of the Nazis tripped over each other's lines, and when Von Trapp's fiance had the back of her dress stepped on by an extra. She turned around, yanked it and said a little "oops!" (in character), so she recovered gracefully.

I think anybody coming into this expecting to compare it to the film was clearly setting themselves up for disappointment.
If NBC does this again, not only do they need to perform it in front of an audience, but they need to use stationary cameras. The scenes in front of the staircases felt like a play, but the beginning scenes in the Abbey were too cinematic, which probably helped confuse people into thinking they were watching a movie.
Also, I can't wait for the backlash NBC will surely face for showing swastikas. I saw some idiots on twitter who thought NBC should have removed the Nazi plotlines altogether.
