Arrow -- "The Scientist" -- 12/04/13
Synopsis:
BARRY ALLEN COMES TO STARLING CITY - A seemingly impossible robbery at Queen Consolidated's Applied Sciences Division brings Central City police scientist Barry Allen (guest star Grant Gustin) to town. Citing a similar case back home, Barry offers to help Oliver (Stephen Amell) and team with the investigation. Oliver senses there is more to Barry than meets the eye, but he's distracted by the similarities between this current case and something that happened on the island. Meanwhile, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) takes a liking to Barry, which doesn't go unnoticed by Oliver. Sin (guest star Bex Taylor-Klaus) asks Roy (Colton Haynes) for help when a friend of hers goes missing. Roy is surprised when Thea (Willa Holland) not only encourages him to help, but joins the search. Unfortunately, Sin's friend is connected to Brother Blood (guest star Kevin Alejandro), and their search ultimately gets one of them seriously injured. Michael Schultz directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kresiberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg & Geoff Johns (#208).
Episode 8 of 23
This is the 1st episode to introduce the Barry Allen character/The Flash. I believe he's going to be in 1 more Arrow episode, but The CW is producing a stand alone Flash pilot for contention for next Fall.

I believe he is in following ep which is fall finale. Ep 20 was supposed to be the backdoor pilot, but that obviously changed.

I know everyone is giddy about Barry Allen but I'm just so happy there's been so much Felicity this episode.

Awesome episode. I'm surprised they mentioned Ra's. They seemed to be pussy footing around it.

Yeah I can't lie I had a hard time focusing on this episode. I just really, was hoping we could have seen him get his Flash powers this episode. Especially when they teased us by having him be near the chemicals and then hearing thunder.

I could've done without the goofy, whimsical music when Barry was on screen every time.
I did like some of the comments from him, though. Not being good on his feet, being late for stuff. So, are they setting up a villain for the new Flash show?

I didn't mind most of Barry's introduction or his personality, but it's definitely tough accepting how young the actor looks playing him. He's one of those adult actors that could almost pass for a high school kid. I guess the CW wanted a younger hero than Green Arrow himself.
It was a tease having Barry play with the chemicals while the lightning storm hit.

If people weren't paying attention, famous comic book writer Geoff Johns got a writing credit on this episode. Most of the new elements in Barry Allen's background from this episode are taken directly from Johns' re-introduction of the character in DC Comics before the new reboot. We also got a DC easter egg this episode in the form of Ted Kord (Blue Beetle). He exists in the Arrow universe.

I also had a problem with how young the actor they used for Barry Allen is. I guess that's what we're going to get as long as we get series on The CW.
What I find a little odd is why they're even bothering introducing The Flash character in The Arrow universe if they're never going to use him in it? The way this episode's playing out it looks like he won't even get his powers in the next episode (nice tease with him standing in front of the shelf full of chemicals).

There was that quick cut in the commercial for the next ep. where someone fall back into the chemicals on the shelf.

Well he was supposed to have an episode of Arrow serve as a backdoor pilot; plus I suppose he can come back as a guest even if they pick up to series.
Speaking of, I doubt they'll call it Flash. My guess would be Central City.

Cool episode. Enjoyed the introduction of Barry. at how Felicity was so smitten with him.
With WB and The CW producing a standalone Flash Pilot, I believe Barry/Flash's origin story is supposed to explored further in that. So, no Flash origin in next week's midseason finale. But looks like Barry will also know Ollie's secret.
I wonder what happens if for some reason the CW passes on the Flash Pilot, although unlikely. I guess they could bring back Barry as full on Flash mode in season 3.
