Classic TV Shows - Huge Sale on Amazon

Amazon has several classic tv seasons on sale right now. You can get Perry Mason seasons from $10-20. Also The Fugitive seasons are on sale.

I picked up several western shows on sale to fill out my collection. Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Maverick and the final season of Wagon Train.

Link?

The first two seasons of Maverick are around $18, which is decent but not huge. I think that's around what I paid for them when they first came out.

I'd get Rawhide if it hit $15 or less.

I had Maverick S2 on my wish list for like a year, and never saw it dip below $25.

I also picked up both volumes of Rawhide S5 for $34.34

Re: Classic TV Shows - Huge Sale on Amazon

Those PERRY MASON sets would be a good deal if they were full and not half seasons. Buying the entire series in half volumes even at ten bucks each would run you over $180. Not a deal, but I recognize that these CBS releases are not cheap to begin with so some may consider that a bargain.

^ I've held off on the more expensive later seasons, but ten or twelve bucks for a half season of the earlier ones isn't bad at all. Getting both volumes of Season 1 will cost you just over $20, and you're getting 39 one-hour episodes. 30 episodes in Season 2, 26 in Season 3, and 28 in Season 4. I'm always complaining about TV shows being too pricey, but I can't really do that here.

Compare these prices with Raymond Burr's other show Ironside. Season 1 of that will run you $41.66 on Amazon, for 28 one-hour episodes. I would happily pay $20 for that (either in one $20 volume or two $10 volumes), but I've held off and invested the money in the Mason sets instead.

I understand your reasoning and agree with it for the most part, but I still see it as too big of an investment over time given the length of the series. I personally despise half season sets so I know that is skewing my perspective. I'm tempted to get at least the first season, but then I'm worried a better deal for the complete series will eventually transpire.

Only a few dollars savings, and I rather have fast shipping with Amazon. Amazon also has the individual Untouchables seasons marked down as well.

Fair enough. You have to buy what's right for you, after all.

Having said that, if you do decide to pick any of them up in the future, I suggest starting with Season 2 or 3. The quality of the show is pretty consistent, but like a lot of TV shows, you get the sense that in Season 1 they were still getting a feel for their characters and the overall identity of the show.

By the way, if you're interested in watching the show online, CBS has full episodes from Season 1 and Season 2 on their website here:

Re: Classic TV Shows - Huge Sale on Amazon

Jory, last week on the day before Thanksgiving, Family Video advertised on their site the complete 72 disc set of PERRY MASON for $25.99. I figured it was a mistake, but ordered it anyway. Yesterday they canceled the order. Oh well, at least I had hope for five days!

Re: Classic TV Shows - Huge Sale on Amazon

^ That's nuts. I would never believe it. The cheapest I've ever seen the complete series set was around $150, and that was so ludicrously low that it didn't last long. Someone must have been having a fire sale. Amazon is selling theirs for just over $200 now.
