Does Anyone Know if there is a multi-region (preferably UK electrical based) player with the ability to convert NTSC video format into PAL at 50 Hz without any stuttering in the picture? (I have a crap TV you see)

Hi and welcome to DVD Talk. Unfortunately I do not have an answer for you. This is a good place to post this and hopefully someone can help you. Might I make a suggestion that you also post this in the "International Forum" as you may get a better response there.

Hi Fabiosa,

Sorry I couldnt answer you on The DVD forumn's but I had an exchange of Word's with a friend of the moderator and thus was band! Anyway forget that you wnated to know about the HITACHI 505.

The 505 converts to PAL,NTSC & PAL60, NTSC appear's to be a little brighter then the other 2 standard's but the picture look's good on any.

There is a very slight jerk on panning scenes on R1 Disk's, but there isnt an onboard converter on any player I have heard of that can remedy this.

The only mark on the 505 is it's remote it is poor.

Ironduke,
I have a couple questions that you may know the answer to.

You said the 505 "converts to PAL, NTSC & PAL60). Do you know if the 505 can output NTSC 3.58, that is, play R1 NTSC, R2 NTSC & R2 PAL on a US TV?

Can you confirm the 505 has 5.1 outputs as well as the Optical and Coax?

Thanks much.

The 505 does the full monty->

pal->pal60/NTSC
pal60->pal/NTSC
NTSC->pal/pal60

NTSC = 3.58
PAL60 = 4.47(or something like that)

If you need a second opinion-> http://www.techtronics.com/ttn/shop/index.html

The 505 has an onboard DD5.1 decoder so yes the outputs are there, on mine there not doing much as I dont have an amp or speakers

If you get the 505 then check this place out once in a while->

hope that helps

Beware of the Hitachi DV-P505E, I got one and the picture quality was very poor, I phoned the company and got a replacement and it was the same.

So instead I went for the Wharfedlae 750S from www.tesco.com, and it is much better (and cheaper). Although the Pal 50 conversion is not too hot.

I beg to differ I have also seen Wharfdale in action and the 505 is far superior, to tesco's cheap shite that doesnt play RCE.

SO BEWARE OF THE WHARFDALE IT'S PICTURE IS CRAP AND IT STUTTER'S TERRIBLY ON PAL50.

HITACHI 505 ROCKS!
