Re: Have any of your video game consoles died?
My fat PS3 from 2007 did the whole yellow light of death thing. My launch 360 is still chugging along, though...never red-ringed.
My Atari Lynx from 1989 doesn't power on, at least the last time I checked.

My launch 360 gave me the RROD twice. My launch PS3 gave me the YLOD once. Other than those times I've never had a console break down on me.
Oddly enough my launch Dreamcast still works flawlessly to this day.

Yes, only the 360. It had one RROD that was replaced under warranty, and last year it died for good and I got a replacement for XMas as a present.

Yes:
-- Lost an original Xbox
-- Lost a 360 Elite and got it replaced under the expanded 3-year warranty. The replacement still runs great!

Let's see.
2 or 3 NES's. The first ones were horrible back in the day, this was before I knew that you could replace certain parts on your own.
1 PS2. It just stopped working. It was also modded, which is probably why it did eventually malfunction
2 Xbox 360's The ole Red Ring.
There might be one I'm missing, but that's the just of it.

My launch 360 RROD, got it refurbished by Microsoft, and then it eventually died again several years later, at which point I cut my losses and bought an elite. The elite is still going strong as of today.
My PS3 that i bought about a year after launch has been absolutely rock solid, which is why I'm so surprised by the BLOD issues some people are experiencing.
I fully expect the launch One to have issues out the gate, and would be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't.
My PS1, N64, Dreamcast, SNES, Genesis, never conked out on me, surprisingly. Those systems are long gone now though, and sometimes I wish I'd held onto them.

None of my 'recent' systems ever crapped out (PS2/3 GC/Wii Xbox/360). I would be pretty pissed if they did, since I expect a certain standard with the hardware. It's still ridiculous to think that the RROD and stuff like that is acceptable.
As for older systems, I don't think my Genesis works any longer, and the NES does that blinking thing. Still not happy about the resetting Dreamcast, that was pretty badly designed in terms of longevity.

My 80GB PS3 (MGS4 BC Model) got they YLOD earlier this year. I used the hair dryer trick to get my game out and sold it for parts and got a new one (which I then sold the PS3 Move equipment and extra controller from). All told only ended up being out of pocket about 80 bucks to replace it (which is what the guy at the shop wanted to try and fix it, so I consider that a win).

If you don't count needing to blow into NES games to make them work, the only system I had take a shit on me was my launch 360.

My launch day 60GB PS3 got the ylod about a year ago, but i performed the oven technique on it and it's been running fine the past year (knock on wood).
In case you don't know, the oven technique involves baking the motherboard at very high temps.

Re: Have any of your video game consoles died?
My 60 GB PS3 did the YLOD and I eventually bought the slim version.
The first model of the Nintendo DS broke on me. They were badly made. I got the next model of the Nintendo DS and it still works.
