How I Met Your Mother - "Mom and Dad" - 11/18/13

"Mom and Dad" - When Barney's father arrives at the hotel, Barney devises a plan that makes Robin very nervous. Meanwhile, Ted is convinced someone framed him by messing up a wedding-related duty, on the final season of, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, Monday, Nov. 18 (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. John Lithgow returns as Barney's father, Jerry; Frances Conroy returns as Barney's mother Loretta; and Wayne Brady returns as Barney's brother, James.

Ugh, back to Farhamton.

Worst concept for a tv season since Rosanne's final season?

Hard to tell for me at this point. I have been DVRing this season and I watched the episodes this weekend. I think having the whole season set at Farhampton is bad idea and certain running gags are falling flat like Lily and the drinks. I think maybe what could have worked better was having 12 episodes set at Farhampton and then Ted mets the mother and the remaining episodes show how their relationship develops.

I don't have any issue with the Farhamton setting.

I think most of the feedback here has been positive too.

This season isn't bringing back fond memories of the first 3 but I do think it's better than the last few. The Farhampton setting hasn't been great but I have no issues with it. The show has been exactly the same regardless.

For me the only remotely decent episode this year was last week's, coincidentally, the only episode not set at Farhampton.

Long answer?
Spoiler:
Season nine of Roseanne begins with the Conners winning one hundred million dollars in the lottery, and the rest of the season maintains the same sort of unbelievability. A prince falls for Jackie, the Conners party with rich people, and Roseanne battles terrorists just in the first few episodes. Dan almost has an affair in California and Roseanne almost has an affair with her old boss' son (James Brolin). D.J. grows up and gets a girlfriend (Heather Matarazzo), and Bev comes out of the closet and gets a girlfriend, Joyce (Ruta Lee). Finally, Dan's mentally unstable mother, Audrey (Debbie Reynolds), pays a strange visit, and Darlene's baby is born premature. The admittedly bizarre series of events in season nine are dealt with in the conclusion episode, "Into That Good Night," where Roseanne delivers a monologue. Apparently, Dan was supposed to die during his heart attack at the end of season eight, and season nine was all in the imagination of the character of Roseanne.

I don't know why it didn't occur to me before tonight, but of course when you've got NPH and Wayne Brady in the cast you're going to do a musical number.

obviously there are studio shots, but the exteriors are Castle Hill in Newport, Rhode Island - which I've been to, so that was a fun surprise.

Not quite...
Spoiler:
Actually, it wasn't season nine that was all in her imagination, it was the ENTIRE SERIES. It turned out that the whole series was just her re-writing her life. Jackie was a lesbian. Darlene was married to Mark and Becky was married to David. Dan died from a heart attack.

I remember hearing that the reason this was done was so there couldn't be any spin-offs with the other characters.

Ugh. I'm really really growing tired of this never fucking happening wedding. I know they're know for dragging on, but jesus fuck, this season just feels so bland.

They really should have just written off Marshal.

Funny how after 9 years, Ted (supposedly the focus of the show) is finally getting the better plots among the cast.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - "Mom and Dad" - 11/18/13

I've enjoyed this season so far, and it's nowhere near the level of craptitude as Rosanne S9.

But of course, I watched all 10 episodes over the course of a couple nights (DVR), this most recent ep has been the only real dud this season imo.

I don't think any series crawled up its own ass like Roseanne did.

I had no idea. I thought that it was only the last season as well. At that point, I had given up watching anymore, and just didn't care enough to follow how it ended.

That's the only finale ever that works better out of context.

I watched the occasional episode, but I don't think I watched any after the fifth season. I had no idea it had ended this way. Pretty wacky.

Love in that Roseanne synopsis how having a pre-mature baby is as bizarre as the other things listed.
