Possible Bluray player capability to TV problems?

Do some bluray players have capability problems with certain TV's? I have a Sony BDP-S470 blu player. I have installed all of the current filmware updates. But my discs still won't play all the way through on my LG flat screen.Eventually when the disc get's disrupted a invalid format screen comes up on my LG tv. So I moved my player to a Sony tube HD-TV that I hadn't been using for awhile and the disc's seem to play fine on it. No skipping or disruption on that. That's what prompted me to ask the question of capability problems with certain players to TV's.

What do you mean by disrupted? What happens?

Re: Possible Bluray player capability to TV problems?

When i'm watching a bluray or even a regular DVD, on the Sony bluray player, on my LG flat screen TV it will shut down
the screen goes black/blank, for a second or two then the movie will re-appear on the screen. Then a few minutes later it will do the same thing. Till eventually the player will just shut down and a note will appear on the screen- invalid format. Then I just have to turn everything off.

then I thought to test out my bluray player on my other tube Sony tv, and it seems to play fine. At least currently it does.

How are you hooking it up? HDMI? Sounds like it could be a cable issue. Try connecting another one and testing that out.

Yes, I am using a HDMI cable. You think I should get another one?

Try a Redmere cable from monoprice.com. As short as possible. This sounds like a handshake problem. A new cable may fix it. HDMI is a pain in the ass.

I watched a bluray movie on my Sony Tube TV today and it played flawlessly. I'm going to re-hookup my bluray player to my LG Flat screen TV and watch the same movie tomorrow and compare how it plays. If it develops problems again, i'll look to replace the wire.

It's going to be the cable more than likely. As far as I know, there are no known problems between hardware. It's all in the connection.

Can you try switching to a different HDMI input on the same LG TV ?. Just a hunch but to make sure that that particular HDMI input (socket) on your TV is OK. It could be the board that the HDMI is based in. Try the HDMI in the front of the TV if you have one.

OK. I can try that first. Then if that doesn't work, i'll have to get a new cable. Thanks to everyone for their input.

I had a different HDMI cable in my possession that I found.. So I took off the suspect cable and put on the new one. Seems to be ok. Sat through the Conan movie with no interruptions. At least so far it looks good.

If it's the new Conan, you may wish your signal gets disrupted.

I agree. I didn't care for the new Conan movie. The one that I watched was the original. And the best one. Arnold.
