Synopsis:

Loved the 1st Ninja movie. I do own the BD. Good old school action movie and Adkins was badass.

Based on the trailer, the sequel looks like it has even better fights, even if it seems that Kane Kosugi won't be in any of the action sequences.

I thought the first Ninja movie was a good throwback of sorts to the old Cannon Films action movies.
I mean what else are you expecting from a 90 minute B action movie about Ninjas?

Don't take my previous post the wrong way. I really enjoyed it. I just felt the need to point out that it isn't a great movie. It's an entertaining B movie but a B movie nonetheless.

Jeff Imada is a longtime veteran of martial arts movies, he's done so pretty impressive work, so whatever style it is, I thought his choreography was good stuff. Didn't know there was any JKD in it though.

The type of martial arts used by Jason Bourne is a combination of Filpino Kali along with Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do. Krav Maga is widely mistaken as being used in this film. It is not, as Matt Damon was trained by Kali/Jeet Kune Do expert Jeff Imada. The film's uncredited fight coordinators are Damon Caro and Jonathan Eusebio. Both are trained in Kali and Jeet Kune Do and neither are trained in the Krav Maga.

Absolutely, the guy is deserved well-respected by martial arts fans, he's done tons of great work.
Huh. I don't know enough to tell either way. I'd imagine that Krav is so narrow in function that it might not look all that cinematic, so maybe that's why it hasn't shown up in many films.
The guy is amazingly versatile, he does pretty much everything. He can work on low-budget analog stuff like Carpenter does, big-budget CG-laden action movies, and pretty much everything in between. He does good work with plenty of legitimate martial artists, but he's made non-fighters like Saoirse Ronan, Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale, and Denzel Washington look good too. The guy's one of the best in the biz.
I'm unfamiliar with the Universal Soldier franchise, and the concept of a direct-to-video action movie that's actually good is kind of foreign to me, but I heard good things about it.
Doug Liman claimed he chose Krav Maga as the fight style for The Bourne Identity. However, the trivia section of the film's IMDB page has this interesting tidbit:

Some reviews of the bluray are starting to pop up. Sounds like this is a pretty awesome straight up action flick. Just pre-ordered...

Apparently Redbox is going to put it on a double-feature disc with the first movie on Christmas Eve. That sounds like a fun night to me, I might pick it up to treat myself after my retail cashier work hell that day and kick back with a nice present for a martial arts fan.

Just rented this from Red Box. One of the best straight to video action movies I've seen recently. Adkins was badass and this had some of the most awesome hand to hand fight scenes. I don't want to give too much away, but the climatic fight scene with Adkins and the villain was ridiculously awesome.
It's first and foremost a B action movie, so don't expect anything more than that. I think it's better than the first movie.

Yeah I rented this last night from Redbox also. It's better than the first Ninja movie by a HUGE gap. The fight scenes in it are simply incredible and best of all no shakey cam or quick edits so we can actually see what the heck is going on. This is easily the best STDVD movie to come out since Unisol Regeneration.
Too bad this isn't 1994 because if it was Scott Adkins would be a huge star instead of just doing straight to DVD movies. Anyway I give it 4 stars and look forward to adding it to my collection.

Good, because I Redboxed the double feature disc, and even for a DTV martial arts movie, it was a bit underwhelming. Glad to hear the second is an improvement.
EDIT: The second turned out to be pretty damn good. Still could've done with a few minutes on the cutting room floor, but overall, way, way, way better than it had any right to be. Good fight scenes, Man has a more more straightforward style than Noguchi's Hong Kong-type acrobatics, very punchy and good stuff. Ross Clarkson is a very talented DP, apparently he worked with Ringo Lam Ling-Tung and has sadly mostly slummed in trashy stuff since then. This was a really-nice looking movie given that its budget was probably next to nothing. It was apparently shot digitally with the Epic Red, isn't that the same camera GDT shot Pacific Rim with? God digital is fast-closing the technological gap between the big-time pros and the low-budget indie directors at least in terms of equipment if that's the case. Damn. Solid low-budget action flick, good at what it does, and totally unpretentious. Pointless title though, it had nothing to do with the first movie and pretty much nothing to do with ninjas at all. Looks like this one was was primarily shot and crewed in Thailand rather than Bulgaria judging by the credits.
