I am not sure but I would guess not as none of the DVD players including the current Sony models, but with the exception of Pioneer models, play CD-R's. The other exception is the new game console from Sony the Playstation 2.

Yes still the same answer - CD-R's are CD-R's. Of course you can try, but I am pretty sure about this. This includes music Cd-R's - of all the current DVD players only Pioneers can play CD-R's, and of course Sony's Playstation 2 as I mentioned. My Sony DVD player can play them but it is two years old and was one of the last Sony players to do so. I was quite surprised when I tried a music CD-R in my Playstation 2 and it worked.

As far as the Sony DVD players are concerned, none of them will play CD-R's. For that you might want to go with APEX (which can also play MP3) or some Pioneers. However, the Sony DVD players will play some VCD's.

The specs on the machine say that it cannot play cd-r. I've had the system for about 5 months but have not tried to play a cd-r in fear that it might cause some damage. I have a Sony 5-disc mini-system that I got about 6 years ago that plays cd-r fine.

Firstly sorry about all the confusion.
Secondly I too have the Sony DVP-S300 and it does play CD-R's. However it was part of the last Sony DVD generation to do so. Although the high end DVP-S7700 may be an exception none of the current Sony DVD players play CD-R's. The only current brand of DVD players that does is Pioneer. The Playstation 2 which is also a DVD player does play CD-R's.
My suggestion is to take a CD-R to a local dealer that stocks that system and try for your self. But what I stated above is pretty much the general consensus.
