Perhaps the stores are not stocking it. I did a quick check of stores near me and then random zip codes to see if it was available anywhere. All showed unavailable in store. More likely the shipments are late. They apparently are not stocking the James Dean box set. For the James Dean set it says available only for shipping.

I had a similar experience although I didn't have to travel as far. I figured an academy award winning film released for the first time on blu ray and a digibook would be carried by Best Buy. I was wrong, and Target, and Walmart also didn't carry it. I hate to give all my business to Amazon, but for older titles I probably will just order from them in order to receive them the same week they release. I probably won't be going in Best Buy very much in the future if they are no longer carrying major releases.

Not to be a stick-in-the-mud, but even with current lower gas prices at $2.88 per gallon (and if you drive a hybrid), wouldn't it have been cheaper (and less time-consuming) to just order it from Best Buy & have it shipped? You'll have to wait a few days, but at least you'll get the product and will save yourself money, time, and a whole lot of aggravation.

You have to check the SKU # at bestbuy.com. If the movie has an 8 digit SKU then it will never be sold in stores. If it has a 7 digit SKU then it will be sold in stores. The Right Stuff has an 8 digit SKU.

Even if they were stocking that in store, my guess is they would only bring in one copy per store, which a lot of times won't show in stock for pickup anyway. I find on catalog titles it's just best ot pre-order online if you want it the first week.

Tom Wolfe and "The Right Stuff" are in the news again. From today's New York Times:

The archive also includes interviews with historically significant figures like the test pilot Chuck Yeager, featured in “The Right Stuff” (1979), that didn’t make it into the finished book.
