Dracula -- Series Premiere -- "The Blood is the Life" -- 10/25/13

Series Synopsis:

Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers ("The Tudors") stars in this provocative new drama as one of the world's most iconic characters. It's the late 19th century and the mysterious Dracula (Rhys Meyers) has arrived in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. He's especially interested in the new technology of electricity, which promises to brighten the night - useful for someone who avoids the sun. But he has another reason for his travels: He hopes to take revenge on those who cursed him with immortality centuries earlier. Everything seems to be going according to plan... until he becomes infatuated with a woman who appears to be a reincarnation of his dead wife. Victoria Smurfit ("About a Boy"), Thomas Kretschmann ("King Kong"), Jessica De Gouw ("Arrow"), Oliver Jackson-Cohen ("Mr. Selfridge"), Nonso Anozie ("Game of Thrones") and Katie McGrath ("Merlin") also star. Writer Daniel Knauf ("Carnival"), Tony Krantz, ("24," "Sports Night"), Colin Callender and Gareth Neame ("Downton Abbey") serve as executive producers. "Dracula" is a production of Flame Ventures, Sky Living, Playground Entertainment, Universal Television, NBCUniversal International Television Production and Carnival Film & Television.

Episode Synopsis:

"THE BLOOD IS THE LIFE"

10/25/2013 (10:00PM - 11:00PM) (Friday) : New to England, Alan Grayson hosts a lavish party. He becomes fixated on Mina, a beautiful young woman who looks like his dead former love. Newly engaged to Mina, Harker grapples with worries over providing Mina the life she deserves. TV-14 V

10 episode season

This will be replaced midseason by John Malkovich's new show Crossbones. So this episode order is set in stone. I'm sure this thread will get the typical lurks, clichéd comments. And especially this who think a Vampire show on network TV won't work.

I do not like Morgana as a blonde.

Hadn't planned on watching this, but I did anyway. I was pleasantly surprised.

Meh. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. It's there on a Friday night so I'll continue watching but it's nothing special and rather bland. I hope next week's episode is a bit more engaging.

I went into this totally blind, save for the ads (which really didn't sell the concept at all), and I actually liked what I saw. Interesting to see Van Helsing working with Dracula and I liked that Renfield was reimagined as an Alfred Pennyworth of sorts.

The only negatives were the obvious soundstages (like when Dracula killed the first Order of the Dragon member) and the really cheap green screen effects.

This wasn't half bad. The beginning (the ball scenes mainly) was a little boring. However, the last fifteen minutes made up as we finally figured out what Dracula was up to and the plot moved along.

So, yeah I'll be watching next week as well.

I thought it was really awful. I was so disappointed.

I will give it a few weeks to get it together, but that pilot was about as much fun as dusting.

Now the idea of Vampire Jack the Ripper was interesting. Make that tv show happen.

I liked the rich blonde lady who showed alot of cleavage. I disliked just about everything else. I particularly disliked how Van Helsing was portrayed. Kudos to the show for introducing a twist and not doing the same old same old, I suppose. But it wasn't a twist that I cared for.

Pretty good start. Liked the acting, the look and the story. Seems to take a different run than the other vampire shows.

I didn't plan to watch this but I apparently added it to the DVR during a previous weeks drinking session. I'm glad I did cause I was pleasantly surprised by this. I'll tune in next week for sure.

I enjoyed it and will be watching the rest of the season. I will say that I was bored at first but ending up liking it. Seems like this is a show people will either love or hate. The board seems pretty split.

Sounds like I'll just skip it. Don't need another show if its only mediocre.

Re: Dracula -- Series Premiere -- "The Blood is the Life" -- 10/25/13

I watched this on xbox live...the pilot is up for free. I knew about the show but I was kinda iffy on the lead guy...I like him....but I wasn't sure he could pull of Dracula. I also went in wondering where they could go with this.

I was pleasently surpised how well this pilot worked. The storyline seems like its going to be interesting with him on a mission to destroy the Order of the Dragon.
