Breaking Bad Prop Auction - Need assistance with locating item in show
Need some assistance - as you may have heard, Screen Bid recently hosted a Breaking Bad prop auction of several hundred items, all of which were described as "screen used" and which supposedly include a COA from Sony.
I purchased a couple of things in the auction - one of which was this pair of sunglasses:
Here's the description from the auction:
"The cousins were a fearsome duo, but even the toughest guys are no match for the New Mexico sun, so they wore sunglasses.
This is one pair of the sunglasses that the brothers -- cousins to Tuco Salamanca -- wore onscreen.
They'll look killer on your face or in your collection. You decide."
I've gone through every episode where the cousins appear, and the only one I can see where they're wearing sunglasses is the first episode of Season 3 - "No Mas" (where they get out of the car and exchange their suits for the clothes on the clothes line before they sneak into the US - about 22 minutes left into the episode).
Here's a screen grab:
Now - here's the rub, the glasses that I won ARE NOT either of the glasses in this picture (it's hard to tell from the picture but if you watch the scene, you can definitely tell). The temple piece is way too wide (covering the length of the lens). Neither of these glasses have that. But I can't find another scene of the cousins wearing sunglasses... It's driving me crazy. Either that - or this was falsely advertised.
Are there any other scenes where they have glasses on that I missed? Or is this description flat out wrong?
[By the way, if this belongs somewhere else, feel free to move - wasn't sure...]

Those look more like the ones that are being worn by Cranston here...

I didn't bid on anything because I questioned some of the items being legitimate. They had two items up for auction that Dean Norris had previously stated he brought home with him.

There were multiples of many items as is the case with many props. Yes, Dean said he took the axe but I'm sure there were others. They also had two different tarantulas with jars on the auction (I bought the cheap one).

I don't remember the cousins wearing shades much either. That screencap you posted looks more like the shades in the other "Cousins' Sunglasses" auction, which sold for ever more. I would have made sure those shades were actually in the show before bidding, given the price.

Seems to me like you have a nastygram for Sony Pictures Entertainment, the guarantor that your item is authentic.

Dude, these items seem fishy. I looked at the teddy bear listing and the bear they have there doesn't look like the one in the show. Compare the real thing: http://breakingbad.wikia.com/wiki/Pink_Teddy_Bear to what they have: http://screenbid.auctionserver.net/v...rom/find-lots/
$23,250???
And I agree, those sunglasses are not the ones Tuco's cousins were wearing. Here's a good view from that same scene: http://youtu.be/UAyelz51_M4?t=1m11s A google search of Tuco's cousins doesn't show any other scene with them wearing sunglasses. They're not the ones WW was wearing either.
The Leaves of Grass book does appear to be real. I compared the handwriting inside to an image capture from the show and the handwriting is an exact match.
Did you get some kind of certificate of authenticity?

My best guess is that the guy who is over the props confused this pair of sunglasses they had on hand as an alternate for Walt's with the ones the cousin wore.

Re: Breaking Bad Prop Auction - Need assistance with locating item in show
So - the company called me and I discussed it with them. They looked into it and agree that the glasses did not appear to be in the production after all. They wanted to ensure that everything was legit and they were very friendly about it all and agreed (obviously) not to ship them or charge me.
The other things I bought were: a) the other sunglasses (that do appear to be the same ones in the picture); b) Todd's tarantula and jar; and c) Todd's pipette for meth.
