Some eBay links. Thanks to 540Blue at Blu-ray.com for the heads up. I realize Hamlet and Empire of the Sun are OOS, but sometimes the sellers will relist and the link on eBay will direct you to the new auction.

Thanks, OP. I picked up Wonka.

Edit: The eBay links are dead except for Wonka. The auctions have ended and they've been relisted at their standard price. The website prices are still valid, though, as I picked up Empire of the Sun and Hamlet for $14.01 shipped.

Whoa! I picked up the exactly same two titles (I already have the Wonka digibook). Think it's 12.98 total though (no tax for me)

I'd suggest only using paypal at Rakuten. There have been security issues over there.
I ordered Hans Christian Anderson. I have the rest.

Jeeeesus Christ !!! am not kidding - just got off the phone with Chase after an email from their CC Fraud agency a few mins ago about a $128 charge being attempted on this card at 'Walmart, Bentonville, AR' which was declined - alert placed on the card. Am not sure if this is a weird coincidence but I purchased 2 of these BD's on buy.com y'day on that card. F*** buy.com, am changing my card right now !!

Here’s Everything We Know About The Rakuten/Buy.com Credit Card Breaches

Wow, this is worse than what I thought. I'm not buying shit from them. IB should have Buy.com and Rakuten flagged to be instantly removed and post information in particular forums to warn users here.

I thought something was off when Buy.com would change their name to something completely ridiculous like Rakuten.

I used PayPal as the only web store I leave my CC information stored on is Amazon but this is still troubling. I hope nothing happens but I may change my debit card number as a precaution. I can't afford to have any money tied up over this.

Re: Warner Bros. digibooks --> 6.49 at buy.com

My credit card got compromised on Rakuten, even though I hadn't made a purchase from them in months and months. Back on Labor Day, a whole rash of international traveling expenses appeared on my card.

What happened with the name change is that Buy was bought out by a large Asian conglomerate. Instead of keeping the very valuable web domain in English as Buy.com, they felt compelled to change it to Rakuten.

There were not 1 but three attempts to use my CC per the Chase Fraud Agency Customer Rep - the biggest was $128 at Walmart.com, the second one for an authorization at a car rental agency and the third for $7 at a site called AntiqueInn - all three from this morning. I was asked to identify these 3 transactions and sure enough they were not mine. Glad fraud detection can catch such off patterns but this scumbag company should be put away.

THIS MORNING? You mean they've been hacked AGAIN? Ugh...
I just used a c/c with Rakuten. I wasn't going to, but the c/c was already there from my last order with them (over a year ago) so I figured I may as well just use it, since it was there. Hackers either already got my info, or they don't. No new authorizations on my card... yet.

Those authorizations seem odd though. You can't rent a car without an actual card in hard. Perhaps they actually made a fake card? And why use a stolen card for $7? I'd be buying a new TV or computer or something large, but not too large... I'm amazed the fraud department even caught the $7 one.

Re: Warner Bros. digibooks --> 6.49 at buy.com

It's funny you folks are saying that because a few weeks ago, I had to change over my debit/charge card because of fraud that I'm pretty sure I used on Buy.com at one point. It was international traveling expenses too (I go through USAA which has excellent fraud protection as well). This time around, I'm sticking to Paypal and Amazon for online purchases. If they don't do either, then I'm not doing business with them, end of story.

Maybe to check and see if the card is still active.

I recently had my debit card compromised but luckily I am with a some what small old school bank(no ATMs among other things). Whenever our account gets down to less than $25 they call to notifiy you if you make a charge that what put you into the negative.

Whoever got a hold of my info tried to charge $2000 worth of merchadise with $1700 of it being from Wal-Mart.com. There was also an attempt to buy a $5 giftcard from Best Buy. As soon as we were alerted my wife called WM and was able to cancel all of the transactions. Luckily the BBY transaction and another from a different website never went through. We were able to find out from one of the people from Wal-mart.com that the person placing these orders were sending these items to an address about an hour or so from where we live. They would not give my wife any more info other than the city and state.

Sad thing is, when we spoke to someone from our local law enforcement that handles fraud cases, he said unless the charges were in excess of $10,000 the bank would not do anything about it. He said since it costs so much to investigate, the banks look at it as "a cost of doing business."

Edit: just wanted to add that I have used Buy.com in the past, but I do believe I used Paypal. Regardless, I use Paypal everytime if it is offered.

It's not a new hacking, apparently hackers or ex-employees got access to their entire credit card database in the early months of 2013. The criminals waited a few months and then sold all of the data on criminal exchanges, getting about $25 per valid credit card.

They waited to use most of the hacked cards. There are people out there right now with compromised cards from using Buy.com that don't know it. Those cards are ticking time bombs.

Re: Warner Bros. digibooks --> 6.49 at buy.com

Tempted to get the All the President's Men digibook, but I think there was a non-digibook combo of 3 Days of the Condor + All the President's Men coming out, so I'd rather grab that combo when it gets around $8 than $6.49 just for the one. I'm hoping if I change my mind and pass now that there will be more sales on the digibooks for the same price in the future.

Dumb question about Buy/Rakuten... why is using PayPal safe? Couldn't Rakuten store the password you entered at PayPal on their site and then a thief use your password again later to buy stuff later with PayPal? One thing I've never felt too comfortable with is when you use whatever site and pay with PayPal, it then pops up a PayPal login. It's hard to believe that no company has ever put up a real-looking PayPal page for you to log into to get your password. And on top of that I thought that some companies like Microsoft are able to do recurring PayPal charges if you sign up for a monthly service. So, I'm still fuzzy why using PayPal is so safe.

Are you saying that nobody who has newly entered a CC on Buy/Rakuten within the last few months has had their CC stolen?

I rarely buy from them, and I don't remember if they have my old CC on file. Nothing has happened yet, though it seems like once a year someone tries to use my CC fraudulently which results in me having to change card #s. I think that's independent of Buy/Rakuten, but who knows.

Whenever you pay with Paypal at any site, the only people that ever see your financial data are Paypal's own servers. Paypal is obviously not compromised, it's the essence of their entire business. No retailer has access to the Paypal data except stuff like your home address.

No one is exactly sure when the heist of data was started or even if it has been completely stopped. The first reports of credit card thefts occur in the Spring of 2013. SlickDeals is the main source of discussion for this incident by Rakuten's customers.

Though not impossible, I doubt it will get much lower than this. There is cheap, and then there are prices you never see again. I'll wager this is the latter.

A month or so ago, I had to change CC's because of a compromise. I did use the credit card during BF for a couple of purchases and didn't really think the leak was from buy.com, until now.

You don't enter your PayPal password at Rakuten or whatever merchant you're using. You get directed to the PayPal site directly to enter your password. The merchant never receives your PayPal credentials, or the funding method (credit card, bank account) that you use at PayPal, so that's why it's safer. If the merchant is compromised, but all you used is PayPal, the hackers can't get anything of value on you. Not even your PayPal e-mail address, because they use tokens to complete the transaction between the merchant and PayPal.

There is a PayPal function for recurring subscriptions, but you have to specifically authorize a subscription. Just doing a regular transaction does not allow the merchant to go back later and debit more funds from your PayPal account.

Rakuten also gives you the option to use MasterPass and V.Me. I've used both. They used to have Google Checkout but I think they don't offer that option anymore.

I guess if you had those one-time use credit card numbers, then Rakuten would be a safe purchase.

Same here (back in August). It's been at least a year and a half to two years since I bought anything from buy.com. I can't recall making a purchase there since the rebranding.

I received a letter in the mail yesterday from "Datapak Services Corporation", a company that processes payments for various online businesses (or so they claim). They informed me that malware was detected on their system back in March and that my personal billing information may have been compromised. Makes me wonder if it's in any way related to this Rakuten fiasco. The timeline certainly adds up. Anyone else here get a letter? I know a couple members mentioned getting it in the otter forum.
