Mr. Prezbo!

Collette needs something other than the wide-eyed look.

I'm going to continue to watch this but I'm not too impressed and I dont see how they keep dragging this out. I think this is going to take the title of worst show I watch every week. (Congratulations, Revolution!)

As somebody said in the first episode thread, this show is too predictable and seems to rely on too many action movie cliches. As soon as he handed her the gun, I knew exactly how the scene would play out because I have seen it before. I don't think I'll watch any more episodes. I'll probably just wait for the post-sweeps-period holiday burnoff of canceled shows to see how it plays out. My prediction for the ending:
Spoiler:
Dylan McDermott ends up defending the family from an army his bosses have hired and dies in the process. Also the black guy turns out to be a mole at some point.

This thing makes The Following look like a complex, staggering work of genius.

It's hard to envision me sticking around too much longer with this. McDermott's character is interesting. Otherwise, there's not much in the way of redeeming qualities.

I'm holding off to see the consequences for doc not doing what she was supposed to do. For me, that will determine what kind of show this is. If the bad guy makes threats of what will happen if you don't follow his orders, then nothing happens, he's toothless.

There's not really a lot they can do the family for punishment. If he shoots one of the kids in the head, it's going to cast too much attention onto the doctor and her family.

The Following at least kept it semi-plausible and interesting for a few episodes. Hostages' pilot wasn't bad but this second episode was routine and forgettable.

Seeing as it has no shot at renewal, I am out.

That underlines my point. What are the real options here?

1) Kill the whole family for not playing along? Show over.

2) Keep moving the line while threatening they REALLY better not cross that one. Toothless and boring.

3) Kill the husband or someone else close and underline the initial thread. Now granted, they did kill the nurse friend of doc, but that was more because doc didn't handle the drug misdirect as instructed. There really was no direct consequence for not taking out the President.

At this point, I'm curious to see what the next episode will be like. By all rights, it should be terribly boring watching the two week "go about your normal lives" period. For me personally, there's a lot riding on this 3rd episode. Win, and I'd give me more time. Lose, and I'm probably out.

I don't care whether it's renewed or not because the first season of a limited run should be self contained anyway.

but then again, wasn't it supposed to be one 15 episode story? Where next year it would be a different premise? (like american horror story)

Re: Hostages -- "Invisible Leash" -- 9/30/13

This is actually one of the few shows that's holding my attention and I hate that the ratings are so low. It ain't perfect, but I'm enjoying it well enough. I am interested in seeing how all the characters merge their personal dilemmas to the main plot. Cheating husband, pregnant daughter, drug-dealing son, and even one of the hostage takers is apparently a pill-popper.

I think that was mostly a publicity scam by CBS. Just like Under The Dome, the networks don't want limited runs. If Hostages had been a huge ratings hit, they would have brought back the same essential cast.
