Favorite Star Trek TNG Season 1 Episode?
My favorite episode was "The Big Goodbye" The one where Picard uses the Holodeck for the first time. the Tech was amazing and Picards' reaction to it was great. I can't wait to see what future episodes deal with the Holodeck. Least favorite was "Haven" Deanna Trois arranged marriage. She's the weakest character who only serves one purpose
I've only watched season one so please keep the discussion centered around season one episodes.

That's my favorite 1st Season episode too. I gave up on TNG after watching the first few episodes. It felt like they were re-treading familiar territory. After a few weeks, I decided to give the show another chance and "The Big Goodbye" was the episode that turned the show around for me.

I'm not a fan of season one but if I had to pick an episode I would go with Encounter at Farpoint

Re: Favorite Star Trek TNG Season 1 Episode?
I ended up showing my wife season 1 of TNG recently because it's available on Amazon prime in HD, and she had never seen much of the show (she had seen TOS, but only a few TNG episodes). I ended up skipping a lot of season 1 episodes, mainly the lower-rated ones, in order to keep her interested. She still found some of it cheesy, but overall entertaining.
The "favorite" was probably 11001001, mainly for the shots of Picard and Riker navigating the empty ship, getting shit done. During one scene of them strolling purposefully down an empty corridor, I dubbed them "Team Badass," which amused my wife to no end. When viewing later episodes, my wife now refers to Team Badass whenever Picard and Riker team up again.

Re: Favorite Star Trek TNG Season 1 Episode?
I'm a sucker for Data-centric episodes, so the introduction of Lore seems a no brainer to me.
I also really like Conspiracy, though it doesn't feel like it's set in the same universe as pretty much the whole rest of the series.

I went with Skin of Evil, I really can't recall many details from other episodes from the first season, but I found that episode to be very memorable.

Honestly don't remember which one this is(I try not to remember S1), but I saw a clip on YouTube the other day from a Comic-Con where Spiner mentioned that as the worst episode ever and that they all were uncomfortable filming it. He figured for sure it was left off the blu-ray release due to offensive content and was surprised to hear it wasn't.

Of course there were moments where we would go "we’re in trouble." There is that one episode that we all knew was bad very early on. The one where Denise [Crosby] was captured by the tribe of space Africans [laughs]. It ["Code of Honor"] was just a racist episode. Maybe not intentionally but it felt that way and looked that way. It was the third episode so it was fortuitous that we did our worst that early on and it never got quite that bad again.

And from the Star Trek Wiki
- As noted in the TNG Companion, Tracy Tormé was embarrassed by what he called a "1940s tribal Africa" view of Africans in the episode.
- Jonathan Frakes referred to the episode as a "racist piece of shit" At a 2007 science fiction convention in Toronto, Canada, he told the audience, "The worst and most embarrassing and one that even Gene would have been embarrassed by was that horrible racist episode from the first season... Code of Honor, oh my God in heaven!"
- According to Wil Wheaton, 'if the cast wasn't arbitrarily decided to be African-American,' the idea of the episode being racist or non-racist wouldn't have been an issue.
- Star Trek: Voyager actor Garrett Wang said this episode "stinks" to which LeVar Burton agreed, adding "without question", at a Star Trek panel at DragonCon 2010.
The Official Star Trek: The Next Generation Magazine, Vol. 2, pp. 52-57. - At the 2013 Toronto Comic Con's "An Evening With the Cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation", Michael Dorn referred to this episode as "the worst episode of Star Trek ever filmed" to agreement from the rest of the cast and the crowd.
Unsurprisingly, that was one of the episodes I skipped!

Re: Favorite Star Trek TNG Season 1 Episode?
I watched seasons 3 and 4 the other day, then picked up season 1 and was amazed how shitty it was (while watching Code of Honor). It went from this by the numbers ripoff of the original series to redefining scifi with eps like Who Watches the Watchers or just great storytelling like The Bonding or The Most Toys.
I voted Conspiracy, when it 1st aired it stood out against the original series rehashes.
