Classic Film: Exclusive or Excellent Imports

Hello all,

I'm taking a break from my Blu-ray buying to return to my classic film DVD collection. I am looking to add some obscure or not so obscure films that may have been released in France, Spain, Germany, etc that may have not been released in the US.

For example, I just purchased:

1935 Three Musketeers from Spain
8 Disc Douglas Fairbanks Collection from Germany
- The Black Pirate
- The Iron Mask
- Don Q - Son of Zorro
- Flirting with Fate
- Robin Hood
- The Mark of Zorro
- The Thief of Bagdad
- The Three Musketeers
6 Disc Fritz Lang Collection from Germany
-Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler - Part 1: The big players - An image of time
-Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler - Part 2: Inferno, a game of people of our time
-Spies
-Woman in the Moon

I am looking for suggestions from anytime before 1940. I prefer collections, but if a single disc has caught your eye, please let me know.

Re: Classic Film: Exclusive or Excellent Imports

I kinda have a fetish for Eureka’s Masters of Cinema line from the UK. I would have recommended their Mabuse box set. They also have individual releases of Spies, Woman in the Moon, Metropolis and Die Nibelungen. Another good thing about the MOC line is the booklets are in English assuming that is your primary language. MOC also has a Buster Keaton box and had an early Lubitsch box which is now OOP. The UK also had a 21 disc box of Laurel and Hardy films and a 10 disc W.C. Fields collection but the Laurel & Hardy set looks as if it may be OOP. The Fairbanks set sounds pretty cool.

You might get better responses in the International DVD Talk forum area. You might post a list or link to a list with your collection so folks know what you already have.

Thank you for the suggestion on the Complete Mabuse set. I was able to cancel the Fritz Lang Collection, and I went instead with the Eureka set. Very excited about the Commentary tracks on these. Thanks again.

Just in case you care about having the best quality releases, Eureka just announce Dr. Mabuse The Gambler on blu-ray so 2 of the 3 films from that set are in hi-def.
