What TV Series Is Worth A Buy ?
I started thinking the other day while looking at all my movie collection and how many I dont even watch. What TV series does one buy that they would watch again? I know there are good series but are they worth a buy to which you would watch the entire series over? Many people dont even watch a movie twice after buying it.
If you are going to buy a series on DVD/Blu-ray/iTunes, what are some of the titles you consider worth a buy?
I think many would consider LOST and good buy. I love True Blood but I dont think that would be a show I would go back and visit.
Maybe some buy shows for nostalgic reasons? TV shows they watched growing up?

The Shield. I've seen season 5-7 about 4 times in total. The first four are great as well, will be revisiting that soon. But from 5 to the end it is one long roller coaster ride.

I agree. I also have rewatched Deadwood, Sopranos, Rome, and Firefly more than several times.

Here's quite a few that have gotten multiple spins from me:
24 (seasons 1-3 and 5)
Sports Night
Freaks and Geeks
Firefly
Veronica Mars (ran through season 1 after the kickstarter)
Breaking Bad (marathoning again right now)
Game of Thrones (just watched season 1, read the book and rewatched season 1)
Arrested Development
Entourage (ran through the entire series again about this time last year)
Chuck (just ran through the first 2 seasons recently)
Cheers
I would have thought Seinfeld & Friends would have gotten more replay but it's just easier to watch in HD on tv than pull out the DVDs.

CSI seasons 1-9
I think the Grissom years have alot of replay value. Plus being a self contained procedural, you can pick and choose your favorites.
Southland I now own all 5 seasons and will eventually re watch.

I see more story driven series than those what are just episode to episode type series.
To me, not sure I could go back and re-watch Seinfeld or The Office type shows.

Just in the last week or so I started watching Friends in HD on nick@nite. I haven't watched it in years, but it holds up quite well. Still pretty damn funny, even episodes from the last couple of seasons.

Re: What TV Series Is Worth A Buy ?
I want a full digital set of The Simpsons at some point. I can make it happen but not at current prices.
I have to say though, I can't think of much I consider "worth a buy" since, much like $5 bins at Walmart, Netflix has sort of devalued TV series collections for me.
Stuff on Netflix I've watched repeatedly:
American Dad
24
Family Guy
Futurama
Adventure Time
LOST
Breaking Bad
Walking Dead
Mad Men
What I'd buy as a set:
Boston Legal

Re: What TV Series Is Worth A Buy ?
Seinfeld and Simpsons sets were worth it for me since I watch both those shows all the time. I never get tired of them.
Most of the shows I watch multiple times is on Netflix and they're sitcoms: Scrubs, That 70's Show, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Cheers.
As far as dramas go: I've gone through the Wire, LOST and the Shield multiple times. Sopranos got a lot of use because I'll watch random episodes but I don't think I've gone through the entire run more than once.
I imagine I'll go through Breaking Bad a few more times once it's all said and done.

Same here. And you be the added bonus of seeing the version that weren't cut for syndication. There are jokes from the classic Simpsons episodes that I forgot about because I've seen the syndicated versions for years.

I mostly buy comedies because they are easier for me to watch. My two most watched shows by far are Sunny and Archer.
My Band of Brothers discs have also gotten a great workout.

Re: What TV Series Is Worth A Buy ?
I thought about Lost and dismissed it. I watched the first 4 seasons probably 3x each but haven't watched a single episode since season 6 aired. The blu-ray sets collect dust and I still haven't bothered to buy season 6 to round out the collection.
Not sure if this was a joke post, but I started watching this with my girls recently and they can't get enough. They've all but forgotten about about the afternoon Disney crap that qualifies as tv these days.
It's still schmaltzy as hell and the muzak soundtrack is terrible but it's still easy to see why it was such a huge success. One thing I do find interesting. When I originally watched all those years ago Stephanie was the annoying middle sister. I just never liked her character. Watching it now, I think she has some of the funniest lines. Also I must have bailed when Jessie/Rebecca had the twins and then aged them 5 years. They were clearly trying to capture lightning in a bottle twice and failed miserably at it.

Full House is tremendously popular with the young crowd (5 - 7 year olds) right now, it's kind of cool to see.
Lost I just finished for the first time late last year, I think it gets an unfair wrap despite a less than ideal final season.
