Because what The Hobbit (Part 1 of 3) needed was to be even longer. *cough* Love the "reviews" of people bashing the statue as not being worth $30. I guess they didn't notice it weighs over 2 lbs.

The original theatrical version was one of the longest, most boring films I've ever watched. An even longer version? No thanks.
The Hobbit should have been one 3-hour movie. Turning it into a 9-hour+ trilogy was just overkill.
