Weakest summer blockbuster season ever? (Summer 2013)
it seems like so many films that came out this summer i have been so disappointed with. maybe it is me, but i have never been more bored with this summer's slate of movies, save for a few (Man of Steel, Into Darkness, This is the End, The Conjuring). Other than that i have just been bored to tears with so many. i have a lot of time right now, so i am seeing more than the usual, but have been so disappointed and Elysium seems like it could be my biggest. hope i am wrong on the latter.
so what do you think of this summer's blockbuster fare?

As I have gotten older the summer movies have gotten dumber for my tastes, most stuff that is of any interest to me usually comes out in August. I have only liked a handful of movies from this summer, "This is the End" and "the To Do List" being my favorites. I would still like to see "The Conjouring".

I wouldn't say so. I enjoyed: Man of Steel, The Wolverine, Pacific Rim, This is the End, Fast & Furious 6, and RED 2. I was mainly disappointed in Star Trek: Into Darkness truthfully. Just didn't live up to my expectations at all and I didn't like that they felt the need to retread on old territory rather than create a new story. Iron Man 3 was disappointing on first viewing but the more I think about it I don't really mind it and think it will get better on repeat viewings.

Summers usually only have a handful of great movies, and we had the new Star Trek, This is the End, and Fast & Furious 6.

My theater-going always increases during the summer blockbuster season, but not this year. I've only been to two movies so far this summer, The Heat and The Conjuring. Neither of which are really considered "summer" movies.

Perfectly fine summer for me. I enjoyed Fast 6, This is the End, Pacific Rim, and The Wolverine quite a bit, and liked Star Trek, Iron Man 3, and Man of Steel as well to varying degrees.

I've seen more movies this summer in theaters than the last 5 years or so. Fast 6, Iron Man 3, Star Trek 2, and Pacific Rim. Wanted to see Man of Steel, This is the End, and Wolverine, but didn't make it. So if it's getting me to the theater, I think they are doing a good job

I've seen 13 movies this summer and IMO nothing was truly horrible or bad. If I had to pick, the worst movie I've seen so far in 2013 is A Good Day to Die Hard, but that was a Spring release.
Favorite of the summer:
Fast and Furious 6
Really liked & Had Fun watching:
Pacific Rim
The Wolverine
Star Trek: Into Darkness
Iron Man 3
This is the end
World War Z
Good, but not great:
White House Down
Oblivion
Man of Steel
Mediocre at best, but watchable:
Hangover III
Now You See Me
The To Do List

It seems pretty weak to me, but then most summers in this century have seemed weak to me. I honestly can't think of a summer since 1999 that's had significant appeal to me, in terms of Hollywood releases. But I'd really have to look at a list of summer releases for the last 13 or 14 years to make a better assessment.

And Smurfs 2 just got released. Also Elysium, Percy Jackson and Planes are still slated to be released. Plus We're the Millers could be a sleeper hit. Could

No way. 2009 was much, MUCH worse.
Remember this collection of utter fucking swill?
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Angels & Demons
Terminator: Salvation
Night At The Museum 2
Land of the Lost
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Year One
Imagine That
Public Enemies
G-Force
I Love You, Beth Cooper
The Ugly Truth
Funny People
GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Halloween II
The only worthwhile movies were:
Star Trek
Drag Me To Hell
Up
(500) Days of Summer
District 9
Inglourious Basterds
2009 makes 2013 look like 1999.

I even forgot about the family movies like Despicable Me 2 and Monster's University. Pretty good summer!

Once I read what this was about, I voted no. I thought you were referring to weak performance vs. amount the blockbuster cost. If that was the case, then I think it's a yes. In terms of enjoyment, most of the ones I saw I liked. The only real duds were After Earth and most of The Lone Ranger. I was disappointed with the way Man of Steel was handled, but I still found it entertaining.

Half-Blood Prince was the weakest of the Harry Potter later-era flicks. True, another decent flick, but it's probably the only one I haven't seen since theaters.
Hurt Locker and Bruno... ehh.
2013 still mops the floor with that summer though.

Fans Of Green Screens, Incredibly Fake-Looking Things Express Love For Modern Cinema
NEW YORK—Self-proclaimed fans of artificially sleek movies that at no point appear as though they contain real human beings onscreen in real locations doing real things expressed their ongoing appreciation for modern filmmaking today, sources confirmed. “We live in a veritable golden age for films featuring performers hoisted up on wires in front of green screens and talking to inanimate objects that will later be replaced in post-production with oddly humanoid, cartoonish CGI characters,” film aficionado Kevin Wu told reporters, expressing his abiding passion for today’s movies that essentially look like above-average video games. “If you’re like me, and you like nothing more than chaotic, ugly-looking scenes of computerized carnage where you can practically see the mouse cursor hovering over the movie screen at all times, then this truly is the greatest time in history to be a moviegoer.” Wu added that he often shudders at the thought of how supremely awful cinema must have been before the advent of CGI.
