Bob Dylan - The Bootleg Series, Vol. 10 - Another Self Portrait: 1969-1971 (8/27/13)
From Amazon:
Bob Dylan Bootleg Series Volume 10 comes from the 1969 1971 recording sessions that ultimately produced the Self Portrait and New Morning albums. All 35 tracks are previously unreleased, alternate takes, demos or live versions of that material. The versions of the songs on this package are radically different from the officially released versions. The cover is new artwork by Bob Dylan. The liner notes have been written by Greil Marcus, who wrote the original Self Portrait review for Rolling Stone that infamously asked, "What is this sh**?". Also included is an extensive essay from well known journalist, Michael Simmons. The set also has extensive photographs of that era from John Cohen and Al Clayton many of them rare and unseen - as well as pictures of the original tape boxes and cue sheets.
The Standard Version contains 35 tracks on 2 CD's, and soft cover perfect bound booklet
The Deluxe Version contains 4 CD s and two hardcover books housed in a hardcover slip case
Book # 1 contains 4 CD's and liner notes
Book # 2 contains the photos from John Cohen and Al Clayton.
The 2 bonus CD's will contain the newly remastered version of Self Portrait and the complete 17 song recording of Dylan & The Band performing live at the Isle Of Wight in 1969
The vinyl version contains 35 tracks on 3 LPs (and 2 CDs) plus a 12" x 12" booklet that includes the liner notes written by Greil Marcus, the essay from Michael Simmons, and the photographs from John Cohen and Al Clayton, and pictures of the original tape boxes and cue sheets.

Disc 2 (Standard and Deluxe Editions)

Disc 3 - Isle of Wight Festival 1969 (Deluxe Edition Only)

Disc 4 - Self Portrait 2013 Remaster (Deluxe Edition Only)
Spoiler:
Standard Edition is on Amazon for $19.79 and Deluxe Edition is on Amazon for $105.45. Too bad the Deluxe Edition is ridiculously overpriced (much like it was with Volume 8) as I'd like to hear the concert and remastered version of Self Portrait. Will pick up the Standard Edition though.

Very excited by this although I'll skip the overpriced deluxe edition. I know his "Self Portrait" album isn't ranked very highly by many but I enjoy its quirks, and the "Nashville Skyline" and "New Morning" era is some of my all-time favorite Dylan.

I love every bootleg volume except for the last one (vol 9.) which I found underwhelming. Im not too familiar with this time period so I might get this. I wish they would do a bootleg series version of the Basement Tapes instead with no overdubs, just cleaned up tracks.

I'm totally jazzed about this. Not trying to be Mr. Contrarian here, but I genuinely enjoy Self Portrait--it's Dylan kicking back and having some fun in the studio; sure, it has a tossed-off, "let's bang this shit out as quickly as we can" feel to it, but it also has a ragged, ramshackle charm to it that I find very appealing. Not sure what critics were expecting after the similarly genteel John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline, but I absolutely love the fact that he is releasing a 4-disc set of one his most reviled albums instead of an expanded Basement Tapes or Blood on the Tracks. Nobody trolls like Bob Dylan.
(Not jazzed about that highway robbery price for the 4-disc set, though. I'll pick up the 2-disc set and acquire discs 3 and 4 through other means. I love ya, Bob, but not that much.)

I'm all over this but will also be passing on the four disc set. Dylan may well be my favorite artist but that's borderline offensive to his fans.

Did anyone pick get this? I ended up buying the 2 disc version. I would of liked to but the deluxe version, but 100 bucks is out of my price range right now. There's a lot of stand out tracks that should appease Dylan and music fans alike.

Ordering it from Hastings online for $9.99, but I haven't gotten it yet. Probably early next week. Really looking forward to it though. I love this Dylan voice

I bought the 2 disc set and got the Isle of Wight by other means. I would rather be tortured with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver than listen to Self Portrait again but the outtakes on the 2 disc set are great.
