Re: Favorite Guillermo del Toro film?
I voted Pan's Labyrinth. A truly fantastic film! I also really like The Devil's Backbone.
I blind bought HellBoy and Mimic and I found them both quite boring.
Haven't seen Pacific Rim yet mostly because his action films HellBoy 1 and 2 disappointed me.

Re: Favorite Guillermo del Toro film?
I've seen everything except Pacific Rim and I can't choose.
Mimic is his weakest but that's more the fault of the studio than anything.
Blade 2 & the Hellboy movies are good fun and a little different from your typical comic book movies.
The Devil's Backbone & Pan's Labyrinth are both serious examinations of war with fantasy undertones.
Cronos was somewhere in the middle of the above.

My favorite one? Pacific Rim. It just was everything I could want as a kid from the premise.
His best one is Pan's Labyrinth.

I love this quote:
“I cannot pontificate about it, but by the time I’m done, I will have done one movie, and it’s all the movies I want. People say, you know, ‘I like your Spanish movies more than I like your English-language movies because they are not as personal,’ and I go ‘Fuck, you’re wrong!’ Hellboy is as personal to me as Pan’s Labyrinth. They’re tonally different, and yes, of course you can like one more than the other – the other one may seem banal or whatever it is that you don’t like. But it really is part of the same movie. You make one movie. Hitchcock did one movie, all his life.”

For me, either HellBoy II or Blade II. I enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth for its own merits, but it's not a film I can rewatch.

Not surprised by the Pan's Labyrinth love.
Surprised that no one has voted for Cronos or Mimic. Both films are obviously flawed, but have some magnificent moments.
Despite the less than stellar BO for Pacific Rim, I really hope GDT gets to make his dream project ATMOM.

My favorite is Hellboy, but his best is Pan's Labyrinth. However, you will never watch it the same way again after seeing this:

I fucking love all del Toro's movies! But I voted for Hellboy II the Golden Army. I don't think it gets the recognition it deserves. In my book that movie its as Awesome as LOTR or even the Dark Knight.

Re: Favorite Guillermo del Toro film?
I appreciate his style and his approach to effects.
Yea he has made 1 excellent movie, a few good, and a few mediocre. But I just don't think they warrant the outpouring. Fanboys acting like he's on a James Cameron level or something.

Is this a trick question?
Pan's Labyrinth. One of the best films of the decade, if not ever.

As of right now: Pan's Labyrinth, but I'll refrain from voting until I see Pacific Rim and Devil's Backbone.

Watch it again and hope it gets punny. You won't be disappointed!
As for Del Toro vs. James Cameron, I don't think Del Toro has made a film as good as Aliens, but his worst film is nowhere near as bad as Titanic or Avatar.
