what's with this selection ? Its all over the place. none of these have been specially released just for this packaging. just randomly pick a title from an individual release it already has and put 50 of them in slick packaging. how does it bear any merit ? but there are some gems in it and as mentioned by others, this is more for a newbie collector than a seasoned one

This set is more along the lines of what WB considers as a compilation of their 50 most essential films, chosen in a politically safe, covering all bases/genres method, that are already released on BD.

Some were brand new when the set came out (under a month), like Miss Miniver. Really, though, this set is worth it. You sell what you already have in the set. If you have the Matrix trilogy, you buy the 2/3 dbl feature. There are tons of discs that aren't cheap, and have NEVER been cheap (streetcar named desire, miniver, mutiny, zhivago, cuckoo's nest), and those owning them will get a good return, covering most of the cost.

The UV code is worth a good 20+ bucks to those who'd want it.

I'm happy as shit with my set. Only a few redundant films I can't sell off (Superman 1 in this set and the triple feature, the Kubrick films in this set vs the Kubrick box), otherwise it cost me less than a 100 when i bought it (after i sold what i had in the set) to get a ton of titles i didn't, AND priceless shelf space.

These type of sets are intended for customers looking for one-stop gift purchases on Christmas or a birthday. Too many collectors will already have some of the included discs, so it is more targeted at the ardent movie fan that isn't a big collector.

I'm still debating whether or not to put my set's copy of The Blind Side in the shredder. Can't put anything else in there due to the way each page has each film's art and history on it, though, sadly. would have been amazing to have 50 slim cases, but we probably won't see any sets with those ever again.

Yeah, wtf? A set for people who love films but don't buy them (except for this one time).

Now a WB 50 Best Horror movies or Sci-Fi movies, maybe.

There are probably some that haven't switched out a lot of those for Blu-rays yet.

That's the position I'm in. If I had unlimited resources, I'd be tempted to give this a look. I own many of the films on DVD, but have only upgraded a few to BD. But I'm not looking to drop $185 at the moment.

How is the footprint on this set?

Plus it would hurt the value if you ever want to resell it, of course.

about 8 standard BD cases wide, a slight bit taller. but that's a lot less space in terms of spines, and i have a spot atop my shelves for larger sets, the ones that are wider/longer than standard cases.

no plans to resell, but yeah, it'd look like shit. empty page.

Are the Lord Of The Rings discs the theatrical versions without any extras except for trailers? I'm fearing that they are (since they're only one disc each), but I can't find any concrete information one way or the other.

You wouldn't have any problem selling the UV Code for $50. I've already got 25% of them on UV, and I'd buy it for $40.

yeah, sold mine for 20 or 25 to my DC buyer here 3 or 4 months ago. one slip, one code, 50 movies. pretty damn bad ass, and for those who don't do DCs, like me, just an easy way to recoup some of the cost.

The only film in this set with 2 discs is Ben Hur. The LOTR films are the original releases, the theatrical 1 discers, without the DVD extras disc, so yes, fairly bare-bones, and FOTR is DNR'd to shit.
