I've only seen Three the Hard Way and Enter the Dragon. He was pretty badass for his era. You probably need to be 40 or older to really have any true knowledge or appreciation of Kelly's work.

So sad, Taimak posted about this earlier on Facebook. Jim was scheduled to be at a con here last month, but do to budget failures, they canceled him. Sucks.

And I was watching Black Belt Jones recently.
"Man, you come right out of a comic book."
Could never forget him in Enter The Dragon.

He sure had the gift of action star.
Never understood why he didn't become a action star after Bruce Lee's death.

He was at a con I went to back in March. I brought along a little print that Mondo had sent me as a freebie with another order several years ago. It was from a Q&A screening Jim Kelly had done at the Alamo Drafthouse. His autograph cost $30, so I didn't get it signed. Shocked to hear he passed away.

RIP. I'm not really familiar with his stuff outside of Dragon, but I have listened to the soundtrack for Black Belt Jones and it is magnificent. So so funky.

On the DVD of Undercover Brother, there's a deleted scene where he appears as himself in a cameo.
RIGHT ON, BLACK BELT JONES! R.I.P.

Re: R.I.P. Jim Kelly (Enter The Dragon/Black Belt Jones/Three The Hard Way)
I met Jim Kelly at an autograph show in New Jersey in 2009. He was so friendly, and would do martial arts poses in photos with fans. I told him I've been watching Enter the Dragon since I was way too young, and that my dad had been a fan of the movie since it came out. RIP

Jim Kelly Dead: Actor And Martial Artist Best Known For 'Enter The Dragon' Role Dies At 67
SAN DIEGO — Actor Jim Kelly, who played a glib American martial artist in "Enter the Dragon" with Bruce Lee, has died. He was 67.
Marilyn Dishman, Kelly's ex-wife, said he died Saturday of cancer at his home in San Diego.
Sporting an Afro hairstyle and sideburns, Kelly made a splash with his one-liners and fight scenes in the 1973 martial arts classic. His later films included "Three the Hard Way," "Black Belt Jones" and "Black Samurai."
During a 2010 interview with salon.com, Kelly said he started studying martial arts in 1964 in Kentucky and later moved to California where he earned a black belt in karate. He said he set his sights on becoming an actor after winning karate tournaments. He also played college football.
The role in the Bruce Lee film was his second. He had about a dozen film roles in the 1970s before his acting work tapered off. In recent years, he drew lines of autograph seekers at comic book conventions.
"It was one of the best experiences in my life," he told salon.com of working on "Enter the Dragon." "Bruce was just incredible, absolutely fantastic. I learned so much from working with him. I probably enjoyed working with Bruce more than anyone else I'd ever worked with in movies because we were both martial artists. And he was a great, great martial artist. It was very good."

Shih Kien also died recently, he was 96.
Veteran actor Shih Kien, who played Bruce Lee's archrival in the movie Enter the Dragon, has died aged 96.
Shih made his film debut in 1940 and went on to star in around 350 films.

On Enter the Dragon, Shih - who did not speak English - simply mouthed the lines as best he could. They were dubbed in post-production.

Ahna Capri died a few years ago, also.

Ahna Capri, the beautiful Hungarian-born actress who appeared in TV classics such as 'Leave It to Beaver' and 'Branded' before scoring film roles in 'Piranha' and 'Enter the Dragon,' only to disappear from Hollywood a few years later, has died from injuries sustained in a car crash in Los Angeles. She was 65.
According to reports, Capri was driving in North Hollywood on August 9 when her car was struck by a 5-ton truck. After being rushed to a local hospital, the actress was placed on life support but died August 19.
Capri was born Anna Marie Nanasi in Budapest, Hungary, but moved to the United States at a young age. By age 11, she was scoring roles on hit TV programs like 'The Danny Thomas Show' and 'Father Knows Best.'
The buxom actress continued to work steadily in TV and film throughout the 1960s on shows such as 'The Mod Squad,' 'I Spy, 'Ironside' and, later, 'Kojak.'
By the 1970s, she had changed her name to Ahna and starred as a wildlife photographer in 'Piranha' and a country singer in 'Payday.' In 1973, she landed the meaty role of Tania, the secretary of Han, in Bruce Lee's smash hit 'Enter the Dragon.'
She last worked in Hollywood in 1979 on an episode of 'Mrs. Columbo.'
Capri was never married and is survived by her sister, Rose.
