R.I.P. James Gandolfini

Heart Attack in Italy. His rotund size finally got the best of him.

I'm not really surprised. It's clear that he wasn't making any effort to lose weight just based on seeing him in 'Killing Them Softly' and 'Zero Dark Thirty'.

Re: R.I.P. James Gandolfini

Sad news. He was a very intimidating force in any TV show and/or movie that he did. I still remember him beating the shit out of Alabama in True Romance and actually wincing. Looks like I'm going to actually have watch The Sopranos now.

Re: R.I.P. James Gandolfini

The Sopranos turned me on to his acting abilities, which most recently were on in full force in Killing Them Softly. The man had such a presence, he commanded attention in any scene he was in no matter who he played opposite. I consider this a major loss, especially given his age. I always thought he was older.

Re: R.I.P. James Gandolfini

I didn't realize he was that young. I figured he was close to 40 in True Romance, and that was 20 years ago.

RIP.

He was only 37 when The Sopranos started.

Weird to think he was the same age as Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp.

Holy fuck balls. I just saw this on my news feed. Was watching season one of The Sopranos just last night and thinking how big he had gotten since then. This sucks.

He was a solid character actor before The Sopranos made him a superstar. Damn shame to see him go so young.

Re: R.I.P. James Gandolfini

I was just thinking how great it would be if they would eventually get going on a followup for Sopranos.

So many great roles but always be Tony (at least to me)

A great actor. Slightly surprised, not entirely though. The guy wasn't in the worst of shape, but was not exactly a poster boy for health. There's a lot of actors I'm worried about who are in the same boat.

Re: R.I.P. James Gandolfini

Wow, very random celebrity death.

Like a lot of other posters I've always remembered that horric fight scene in True Romance. He did a lot of great supporting work (like in Get Shorty). But Tony Soprano was a marvelous creation. Very few actors get the chance to shine like he did and I hoped he appreciated it.

Good night, sir.

Inside the Actors Studio with James Gandolfini. You can tell he is very humble and completely unlike the bad guy characters he was regularly cast as.

We received a couple of still pics from one of the PR companies we work with and they show him at one of his last public appearance about a week ago:
