CELTIC THUNDER - Unofficial Discussion Thread
Anyone else like these guys? I've seen them on TV several times in the last few years.

I love the audiences for all those folk music concerts (whether it be irish, german or whatever) They're always clapping, singing along and really into it.

I saw Orla Fallon a couple years ago (I think she was in the Celtic Women thing). The show I saw her in was pure traditional Celtic folk, and she sounded fantastic. Unfortunately, I think with these big "Celtic Thunder, Women" or whatever shows, they don't think there's a big enough market for the traditional folk music, so they have to schmaltz it all up for mass consumption. It's too bad, because underneath the layers of crap, there are often some incredibly talented traditional celtic musicians in these shows.

While I prefer traditional acts like Altan and Solas, I do find Riverdance and Celtic Woman a guilty pleasure, even as schmaltzy and New Age-y as they are. So a while back I tried one of the Celtic Thunder CDs and didn't care for it at all. The clip above was fine, though, so I don't know if I'm just in a different mood today or if the clip is that much different from the CD.

if you dig this type of music, wfuv.org Forham's radio station plays celtic music saturdays from 8am-1pm and sundays from noon until 4.

Yeah, I don't really get that. That song was mildly amusing at best, but you'd think it was the funniest comedy routine they've ever heard. What's with all the screams and shrieks of laughter? Where do they find these audiences?
