Longmire - Season Two Discussion Thread (Debuts May 27th)

Did a search and didn't see a thread for the new season of Longmire, and it didn't seem as if last season's shows generated much discussion so I figured a season thread might be the best way to go.

Episode One (May 27th):

After a prison transfer goes awry, Walt urgently pursues a serial killer and his fellow escapees who have taken hostages up a mountain. Facing an impending storm with very limited resources, Walt's mettle is put to the test. Hypothermic hallucinations force him to face his past. Robert Taylor stars as reluctant hero Sheriff Walt Longmire. Katee Sackhoff and Lou Diamond Phillips co-star.

Re: Longmire - Season Two Discussion Thread (Debuts May 27th)

I watched the 1st 5 episodes last summer, but got busy, fell behind and eventually abandoned it. Luckily Netflix posted season 1 about 2 weeks ago, so I picked up where I left off and finished it a couple of days ago. Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to season 2 tonight. Hopefully A&E gave it more than 10 episodes. It's a weekly crime of the week procedural, so there aren't alot of plot points to talk about. But I did enjoy the character development of Walt, Vic and the supporting cast.

Someone mentioned in one of last seasons threads that it feels like a weekly mystery novel.

If you're interested in picking it up starting tonight, but haven't seen season 1, it shouldn't be hard too figure things out. Season 1 was pretty much self contained.

I for one can't wait. I am dying to know now if he did indeed kill his wife's killer, and how in the world he got away with convincing his daughter that his wife died of cancer and not that she was murdered.

Hoping they give the Indians more presence this season, too. Matthias is an underused character with potential.

Hoo wee! What a start.

Spoiler:
Walt's hallucinating, damn near got killed and Vic totally lost her shit. I figure the hallucinations will be attributed to the altitude. Don't want to think about getting into a fist fight brawl at 11,000 feet in snow.

I had to laugh at Walt trying to keep his hat on during that fight.

What happened to that FBI lady in that cave? Did she die?

Re: Longmire - Season Two Discussion Thread (Debuts May 27th)

I liked last night's premiere episode. But, Walt's constant hallucinations were a little weird though. But as Traxan said it's probably because of the altitude sickness The hallucination of Charles S. Dutton from last season's finale tells me that Walt is probably not being honest about what happened to the guy who killed his wife.

I liked Walt's fight with the Con and how he kept trying to put his hat back on.

Vic punching that federal agent was awesome.

I think the Red head federal agent was injured (saw the blood near her) but didn't die.

So the fight left Walt and the serial killer too exahausted to move, and the killer ended up dying from hypothermia because he didn't have a cowboy hat like Walt?

GREAT to have this back. Love the characters. But yeah, that fight scene was a bit odd. Hard to fathom anyone worried about putting his hat back on in a life/death brawl, but I'm willing to overlook it.

Re: Longmire - Season Two Discussion Thread (Debuts May 27th)

Great 2nd episode tonight. It really felt like a mystery novel.

I liked the reveal that it was the son who killed the rapist and that the rapist was also his father. Some good acting by that kid. Really showed his disgust for his father and how he just snapped and couldn't take it anymore.

Really liked how all the plot points tied together. This was a good way to do a self contained storyline and not have it be too predictable.

Looks like Katie is going to be doing some digging into what happened to her Mom.

Re: Longmire - Season Two Discussion Thread (Debuts May 27th)

I sure am glad I gave this show a second chance. I dropped it last summer half way through the first season due to my schedule. I was convinced by a family member to give it another try so caught the remaining first season episodes on Amazon in anticipation of season 2 and liked how it evolved.

Strong cast and the weekly mysteries are entertaining and original enough to keep wanting more. The shortened seasons manage to keep it fresh as well. Season 2 has been off to a pretty good start.

Longmire -- "Death Came in Like Thunder" -- 6/10/13

Walt and the team explore Absaroka's Basque community after a shepherd and his dog are found dead.

Spoiler:

HOLY SHIT! Henry killed the guy who murdered Walt's wife! Now that is a swerve.

Re: Longmire -- "Death Came in Like Thunder" -- 6/10/13

Great episode Monday night.

Just discovered that Walt's daughter's name is Cady, not Katie.

That was a cool reveal at the end with Henry being behind the murder of the killer in Denver. I am a little surprised they revealed it this soon.

So Walt is going to cover it up, while Cady suspects that Walt is behind it.

Liked the case of the week as well. Didn't suspect the sister in law was behind the murder.

BTW, Traxan you didn't really need to start an episode thread for this.

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/tv-talk/611...-may-27th.html

You could have just bumped the season thread. I think that's good enough for a show like this.

Well most people tend to make a thread per episode. So is there a rule on this?

Not at all. If you want to do episode threads then great. I did most of the Longmire threads last season.

Procedural dramas like Longmire aren't really that popular in this forum. That's why I personally thought MovieKings 1 thread was good enough. But feel free to do them.

It took me three episodes to get into this show last season. So glad I hung with it. Great show.

What did Walt eat at the fair, he told Vic "you don't want to know". I did not catch what it was.

It may have already been known by some here, but I recently discovered this show is filmed in New Mexico. The season 1 DVD includes a feature about the filming of the show.

Re: Longmire - Season Two Discussion Thread (Debuts May 27th)

Bumping this one for the weekly episode update as per someone's recommendation.

Has anyone noticed a trend here? Children as the suspects. Last season we had the son who murdered his dad's gay lover, the gang rape group, and this season the son of the rapist who sired him and now this week, the rancher's son. Plus you have Longmire's issue with his daughter and Branch more or less being put up to challenge Longmire by his old man.

This episode was otherwise a good, shall we say typical western. It involved cattle rustling. The environmentalist wacko element seemed... out of place...
