Nurse Jackie (Season 5 thread) - Premieres 04/14/13
SEASON 5
Resuscitating her career has left Jackie's personal life in critical condition. Can she save herself before it's too late?
What Happened Last Season?
Jackie hits rock bottom and finally goes to rehab; All Saints is taken over by a new director who makes life miserable for the ER staff; Kevin files for divorce from Jackie and full custody of the girls.

Seems like it hit the reset button, everyone who lost their jobs last season got them back in the 4 1/2 months that elapsed since last season.
Two new doctors, I wonder what their malfunctions will turn out to be.

Anyway, the new (less than optimally skilled) female doctor bedding in a patient/exam room seems plenty dysfunctional enough. I actually don't want the doc who just had the baby to leave. She's my kind of attractive. I also like the actor who plays Eddie (and they did The Sopranos together). I'm glad to get rid of the doc who took over the hospital and his son. Nice to see Morris Chestnut.

Is Jackie a moron? She could've gotten her mortgage taken care of and still got the machine paid for (or at least partially). 110k is not chump change.

This has a new show runner this season (Clyde Phillips from Dexter fame) so curious to see where it goes. Thought the premiere was off to a decent start.

Re: Nurse Jackie (Season 5 thread) - Premieres 04/14/13
However, as a nurse, she can afford the 110k. What she (and the hospital) can't afford is the CT machine. So that's what she limits her blackmail to. She's an opportunistic person willing to do a few "dirty" things for the greater good. She's not a personally greedy person devoid of all morality, except to the extent that she's an addict, and when it comes to supplying her addiction, all bets are off. Since she's not currently in the embrace of her addiction, she's actually fairly moral.

I like the Morris Chestnut character already.
Zoe was funny, hiding in the bathroom stall to make sure people wash their hands.

I really love this show. This season has been great so far and next week looks even better. I wish more people were watching it.

Not crazy about the Akalitus plot where she seems to be suffering short term memory loss, but the season is good so far. Jackie actually looked HAPPY a couple of times.

I'm not sure what's going on with Akalitus, but it doesn't look to me like short term memory loss per se as much as the early stages of Dementia or Alzheimer's. I especially recognize the post-its everywhere. And the fine one moment, but lost the next.
Also, I'm amazed someone Cooper's age would allow himself to be treated so badly, even by a cute doctor. He has his own level of success and should be able to find other decently attractive females.

Edie Falco will be returning to her Emmy-award winning role as emergency room nurse Jackie Peyton on Showtime’s critically-acclaimed dark comedy series Nurse Jackie.
The unconventional but brilliant titular nurse will be back for a sixth season in 2014. Season 6 begins shooting this fall.
The premium cable show typically ranks well, with about 3 million viewers per episode, and has shown a ten-percent growth from seasons 4 to 5. Showrunner Clyde Phillips, who took over following season 4 and previously worked on Dexter, is also the show’s executive producer and will be back for season 6. In addition to Falco, Nurse Jackie stars Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith, and Peter Facinelli.
The fifth season finale airs June 16.

Glad to hear it's been renewed. Clyde Phillips introduced a breath of fresh air this season when he stepped in as showrunner.

For me I wsh it had been cancelled. This season and the last it has been slowly trudging along with nothing of substance really happening sans the divorce.

Only two episodes left, and has anything really happened this season? Edie Falco is still so terrific, but it's been pretty flat.

I'm always going to watch the show, but it does feel like it's treading water.
Jackie's no longer abusing drugs and hiding it. Jackie's no longer cheating. Jackie no longer has a relationship with Eddie. Jackie's kids don't live with her regularly. Jackie's best friend is gone. A lot of what made the show enjoyable and compelling early on is gone. IMO, the first season was the best.

Yeah, I really don't know what happened this season that is of any worth in noting.

Not surprised Showtime has given it another season - they definitely like to keep shows past their prime.
This really should be the shows last season. As already stated, nothing much has happened this season that's of any interest. They could make a big thing happen in the final episode - but that doesn't make up for the whole season.
