Excellent season premiere. Not much Joan or Pete, but loved the stuff with Don, Peggy and Roger. Loved it.

Oh shit, now that's the old Don Draper we all know and love.
Good 2 hours. A lot of interesting plot to start out.
Liked the opening setting in Hawaii. Don literally didn't speak for almost 10 minutes into the episode.
The exchange between Don and PFC Dinkins was also really well handled. I think Don was looking at Dinkins as a younger version of himself when he was Dick Whitman.
at Roger breaking down in tears about the shoe shiner's passing, but had no emotion about his mother.
I actually enjoyed the subplot with Betty. Considering most of the time she's an uptight prude, she was actually a lot more interesting.
Betty to the 2 bums: “You have bad manners. You deserve to live on the street or in this pig sty. And I hope you get tetanus or crabs or whatever else is crawling around here.”
Bobby to Betty (about her new hair): "I hate it...You're Ugly"
I felt a little tension there between Peggy and her new boss.
Kudos to the hair and makeup dept. There was some crazy hair, beards and sideburns in this episode.

I'm surprised people enjoyed Betty... Her character doesn't really serve a purpose anymore. I don't think she needs so much time spent on her. It was a bit jarring to just be introduced to some friend of Sally's and expect to be invested in tracking her down. It did nothing for me.
I really enjoyed Peggy and where she is at now.
Nice to see Linda Cardellini and James Wolk, that guy needs some exposure.

I also found some of the editing a bit odd. Like the doorman has the heart attack, and then cut right to him being back at work. Not to mention opening up the episode from his POV, although I see its purpose.

Loved all the references to life, death and temperature in these episodes. Opening scene in Hawaii (with Don reading Dante's Inferno no less) only to close during the freezing New York winter. The violin case resembling a coffin, Roger's speech to his therapist, the symbolism of doors and doorways.
I plan to watch it again.

That scene caught me off-guard as well. It became clear why it was there later in the episode, but yeah I had to rewind it only to notice the cut to Don/Megan wearing different clothes to understand it was a flashback. Megan's comment of "how are you feeling" further clarified it.

Agree about some of the strange editing. The scene with the doorman threw me off, I also rewound it a few times before I figured they were integrating a flashback.
