Re: The Walking Dead -- "This Sorrowful Life" -- 3/24/13

I'm just throwing it out there that the first spoiler will ruin tonight's ending. On that note, tonight's the night where
Spoiler:
Merle dies.

In regards to the comic book and television relations, I don't think we'll see
Spoiler:
Carol committing suicide or Maggie attempting suicide before the end of the season. Rumor has it that the Governor might rape and torture Sasha (rather than Andrea), taking over for the Michonne plot in the comics, which puts Tyrese in Rick's corner.

There's so many rumors flying out there for next week's episode that it's hard to take anything seriously at this point. Either way, we're headed for another action-packed finale which makes up for the on-and-off episodes this season has had.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "This Sorrowful Life" -- 3/24/13

In a thread from the first half of the season some people mentioned the mini-series Dead Set. I'm pretty interested in watching it. Are there any other zombie shows/miniseries people could recommend? I thought a couple of other things were mentioned that I can't seem to recall.

In the Flesh, which already aired its first two (of only three) episodes in the UK, is supposed to be good.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "This Sorrowful Life" -- 3/24/13

I thought the episode was just ok, nothing spectacular since by the end the only thing that changes is Merle, and nothing with the eventual showdown against the Governor. Merle's was kind of expected as soon as he and Michonne went off together. I did like Daryl at the end; the reactions to deaths have always been pretty strong on the show, and zombie Merle looked pretty awesome. I liked Rick's speech at the end, it was similar to what happens in the comic where he relinquishes sole leadership.

Kind of random, but everyone's hair seemed longer towards the end (Merle, Governor). Maybe i'm just imagining things though.

There's also Babylon Fields, a CBS pilot from a few years ago that wasn't picked up. It's a little different in that the dead aren't monsters, they just want to pick their lives back up.

It's on YouTube in three parts. This is the first:

Dead Set was a hoot. I look forward to catching In the Flesh at some point.

I was distracted by Glenn's fake side-burns.

So much for the Ricktatorship.

Did they rip off the famous Dawn of the Dead zombie (red plaid shirt)?

I can't say Merle's death was even a surprise. The only good thing about this episode were the performances of Michael Rooker and Norman Reedus.

I never disliked Rick until recently. Now I just plain hate him with all his BS posturing. And even with the beatdown he got, it's unbelievable the Governor was any match whatsoever for Merle.

This was a fantastic episode, especially the ending. It nearly made up for the rest of the second half of season 3, which has mostly been dull and pointless.

Wouldn't someone's rings eventually just fall off their fingers after being a zombie long enough?

It would have been nice if there had been some way for Daryl to have known that it was the Governor that killed Merle.

Considering that the episode was directed by a makeup effects guy who has been a part of the Dawn of the Dead franchise for 30 years, probably more of a tribute. I admit to shouting out "AIRPORT ZOMBIE!!!"

I think having a "get to know you better" conversation with Carol is an indication that that person will die by the end of the episode.

Daryl might notice that Merle was shot in the chest and connect the dots since he knows Merle let Michonne go. Or he might not. I loved the nod to DotD, I even have the action figure of him somewhere - the Cult Classics one.

It was pretty obvious there was a gunshot wound in Merle's chest, I'm assuming Daryl noticed that.

It would have been cool if the Governor chopped off the other hand.

Yeah, but he has no way of knowing that it was the Governor who shot him. What I was thinking...was that maybe the Governor would take Merle, either shot through the head or zombiefied, and tie him to the front of his truck when he leads the attack on the prison.

Reading Wiki, this is Warm Bodies meets Fido ... I rather liked Dead Set so will have to check this little 3-part series out.

As for this episode. For me it was 75% meh which is to be expected leading into the finale but the ending was sort of a bummer. Gotta feel bad for Darryl and hopefully doesn't make him turn on the group out of anger.

Great episode. Unfortunately, in wanting to avoid the commercials, I waited until after the east coast feed was finished and someone had already spoiled it for me on facebook 4 minutes after it ended before I turned it on. Fuck. Completely ruined the impact for me.

I'm amazed I missed that. Really am. Haven't seen the original DOTD in years, in my defense. Which zombie was it? Did Nicotero work on that film? I thought it was Savini?

Oh, I think he has a pretty good guess.
