"Reinvented" Nine Inch Nails to tour this year
NOTE FROM TRENT:
Nine Inch Nails are touring this year.
I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked - which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.
The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014.
Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon.

Wow, Adrian Belew is one of the most talented guys out there but I never imagined him playing with someone like Reznor. Should be different.

The one and only time I have seen them was on the last tour and it was amazing. I am in for sure if they play around here.

I've seen Nine Inch Nails twice and both times were great. I hope he comes through Oklahoma again. He had a good reception both previous times.

I caught the Wave Goodbye show at the Palladium. Epic barely begins to describe it.
Now he's going back out, and with Belew? Sold. So fucking sold.

Me at NIN's soundcheck during the '09 "farewell" tour
Kinda cool to see Trent do vintage PHM songs in jeans and a hoodie only to have him out in his full concert getup later.

Trent Reznor's revived incarnation of Nine Inch Nails have signed to Columbia Records and will release a new album later this year.

Atticus Ross' involvement slightly concerns me. He worked well for soundtracks, not sure how his style will gel with a proper NIN release.
Also, Trent back on a label? I guess his transmission models weren't so effective. Well, that or Columbia said sign NIN to us and we'll also release your wife's music.

Atticus worked on the last 4 NIN albums, so it's not like this is anything new.
As for the label? It's only for distribution. Trent retains full copyright, creative control, etc, unlike before on a traditional record deal.

The last 4 NIN albums weren't great. Good music, sure, but nothing compared to what Trent had been capable of. Ross' sound just doesn't do much for me in the context of a studio album.
As for the label, I get the distribution angle. Just a bit surprised Trent would go back to a major after expressing such anger towards them. His audience knows where to find him, it's not exactly like he needs the distribution help. Unless he also needs the money help.
