Most "shocking" movie scenes
I looked for a previous thread on this, and couldn't find it.
What are the most "shocking" movie scenes you can remember? I'm not talking about most violent, or scenes that made you jump ("oh, it was just the cat"), but ones that made you feel like you'd just been punched in the gut and then lingered with you afterwards.
For me, an example would be the Brody/Phoenix stabbing scene in The Village. The first shot of the blade coming out of Phoenix's stomach was shocking enough. The second stabbing once he's already on the floor doubled the impact for me.
Anyone else care to offer other examples?

I immediately thought of the fire extinguisher death in "Irreversible"

The baseball bat beat-down in Casino. Something about the way Pesci was begging for the guy's life really struck a nerve with me. I have no problems sitting through movies like Saw or Hostel but that scene is still hard for me to watch.

The one scene in the movie with Brad Pitt where he plays the guy who's dead, then hangs with Anthony Hopkins, and gets with his daughter. That scene was pretty cool and funny.

A thread like this should have spoiler tags all over.

The elevator scene near the end of The Departed. Took the wind out of my sails when I first saw it.

Jason Biggs' dick in American Reunion.
He grabs the glass pot lid to cover himself, and you're sort of worried you're going to see it, and then you don't, and then the scene goes on and then >WHAM< close-up of his cock and balls squished under glass.

Mulholland Drive - The diner scene, where the guy describes his nightmare of a terrifying homeless person who lives behind that diner to his freind. His freind suggests that they walk behind the diner to help him get over his fear...and the homeless person slides out from behind the corner and he collapses (dies?) of fear. I do rank this as a scary scene, but I include it because of the way it's set up and how it taps into such a raw, almost childlike fear. I don't sleep right after watching this movie, I just picture that guy sliding out of every corner I pass.

The baseball bat scene in 'Frayed' qualifies as a shocking one. That GIF swept the web with people thinking it was real, big uproar about it.
You can google 'frayed baseball bat' if you want to see it.
