Arrow - "Dodger" -- 02/20/2013

Oliver asks detective McKenna on a date; a jewel thief named Dodger hits Starling City and targets someone close to Oliver; a pickpocket named Roy Harper steals Thea's purse; Moira makes a move against Malcolm.

I could get used to more Emily Bett Rickards on a weekly basis.

Loved seeing Roy Harper in a red hoodie.

Felicity looked far better as a nerd than all dolled up. Yuck.

I like the show a lot but it seems a bit premature to bring in Roy. Oliver isn't the best mentor yet.

Interesting. Oliver seemed to want to get closer to the cop chick to help keep him in on the loop with police affairs, but then when she was asked to help find the "vigilante" his face had genuine surprise. I didn't really get that.

My take was that he only wanted to get close on police matters just for the Dodger case. He was hoping he could have a normal dating relationship with her but now she is brought in to find "him"; hence the surprise.

Or it could have been an "oh crap" moment when he realized that his potential girlfriend will now be hunting his alter ego.

I took it as the latter.

Felicity is ok in small doses but her wise cracks get old and don't want her to have a prominent role in the show like she has in the last 2 episodes.

Interesting episode. The female detective annoyed me a bit when she got upset during their date. So Oliver doesn't want to talk about the single most traumatic event in his life on their first date and she's the one who gets pissed? That's not a conversation you have over souffle. The show is certainly going all out to get actors for their villain of the week, it's a shame none of them stick around very long.

It could be how it was said, if it sounds snappy people can react to that, something smoother would work better. If said with a better tone one would need to understand that discussing such a topic may not happen for some time.

Re: Arrow - "Dodger" -- 02/20/2013

Good episode. I like how they continue to have ongoing plots off the island as well as on the island. Really does have a comic book type structure rather than isolated tv episodes.

I'm not familiar with the comics, but the hoodie guy definitely had a "I'm not just a cameo role" vibe. Would be good if Thea had more to do and interact wih somebody.

We've seen the lady at the end with Moria before, correct? Triad?

I took Oliver's reaction at the end as surprise. He wasn't expecting her to be on the Hood case.

I think the guy in the cave was a plant.

+1 for glasses

Comic Book Spoiler
Spoiler:
Roy Harper is Oliver's protégé - like Dick Grayson (Robin) is to Bruce Wayne (Batman). His sidekick name is Speedy - like Thea - and had a drug problem - like Thea. He later goes on to be Arsenal and then Red Arrow.

It's always bugged me that "Speedy" was used as Green Arrow's sidekick and Flash's sidekick was "Kid Flash". "Flash & Speedy" has a much better ring to it.

Yeah, between this episode with James Callis and then watching Community right after with Trisha Helfer, it was definitely a BSG reunion for me. Now I'm just hoping Edward James Olmos pops up in something soon.
