Hoping for free shipping, but won't be too dissapointed if they don't, since I have $75 in gift cards to use that I only paid $30 for (bought a $50 for $25 last year and did a one-month subscription to grindhouseflix for $5 and got a $25 gift card)

Re: Full Moon 50% off Sale (2-13-13) - (2-18-13)

Yeah but they will start selling VHS again.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE ULTIMATE HORROR DISCOVERY!

FULL MOON FEATURES’ CHARLES BAND UNEARTHS EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF EXTREMELY RARE OVERSIZE VHS PACKAGING
MINT-CONDITION COLLECTOR’S ITEMS BEGIN ROLL-OUT TO PUBLIC FEB 12

TITLES INCLUDE SUCH HORROR CLASSICS AS: ZOMBIE,
I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE & HEADLESS EYES

LOS ANGELES, CA, Feb 7, 2013 – Horror legend and home video pioneer Charles Band had been putting off his warehouse cleaning for years. But during a recent overhaul of his extensive collection of collectibles, he unwittingly resurrected a veritable treasure trove of vintage horror limited-edition VHS boxes coveted by horror fans and serious collectors. Starting February 12, fans will be able to purchase these original boxes with authentically duplicated VHS copies inside – at an incredibly reasonable price.

“Back in the 80’s, I thought it would be cool to release these films in the oversize VHS boxes,” explained Band. “In the short term, it was very successful - but by 1982 the trend had run its course and the titles were reduced back to regular VHS dimensions.”

Band started Wizard Video in 1980, and was the first to release horror cult films such as Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I Spit On Your Grave in the early days of home video.

“The kids who remember these oversized packages remember them fondly,” Band continued. “The release of this collection is for them.”

Over a span of 3-4 years, Wizard Video published eighty titles in the large-format boxes. Thirty-five years after the packaging’s popularity died out, Band and his excavation team uncovered the original big VHS boxes of thirty-six of these rare titles in mint condition, between two hundred to four hundred copies per title. Each box will be hand-numbered on the spine and autographed by Charles Band and will include an authentically duplicated VHS copy of the film inside of a clamshell holder. Band estimates that very few of these rare videos are still in print – and no more than 5-10 thousand units were manufactured at the time.

Also found in the collection were original boxes of the first horror video games on the planet, from Wizard Video’s sister company, Wizard Video Games. The Atari 2600 game boxes for Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween will be released TBD 2013 from Full Moon. At the time of release, these titles were deemed too violent for children, and were either banned or sold by request-only, making them an extraordinarily rare find as well.

Not willing to spend that much on VHS when they can be found on DVD for cheaper.

True. I'd settle for an illegitimate DVD of it over a vhs tape. Those prices remind me of the prices before you could go to a store and not spend $200 on a new movie.

Why are we bashing these $50 VHS prices? They're hand signed and numbered by Charles Band! And who knows how long it will be before another case magically appears!

I have a white box signed by Charles Band. What's inside? It's a mystery but for $100 you can buy it and find out.

I must admit I am somewhat thinking about getting one... so long as it has never made DVD. Is Miss Nude America the only one?

Re: Full Moon 50% off Sale (2-13-13) - (2-18-13)

LAME! They RAISED the prices on some items, like Puppetmaster 2 and 3 BD's. They were $14.98, so I was expecting $7.50 each. Now they show $19.95, so the sale price is $10 each. I guess the trilogy makes more sense now. I was trying to save $7.20 (the difference in price and shipping between getting just the 2 films, versus the box set). Plus Killjoy IV is not showing ANY discount for some reason.

EDIT: Killjoy IV shows a discount now. Still not happy they raised some prices, AND jacked up shipping to ridiculous levels...

Shipping is also screwed up. I got my order together and was quoted $34.17 for standard shipping. I go to check out and it automatically defaults to $50+ priority. As if $34 for shipping wasn't ridiculous enough.

EDIT: I clear my cart and add the EXACT same order again. Now shipping has risen to nearly $60! WTF?

Re: Full Moon 50% off Sale (2-13-13) - (2-18-13)

I shot the wad with a $248 order. I used up almost my entire Evergreen card ($1.84 left). I was pissed about the $60.65 shipping charge, and the raising of prices, but I don't know if a better deal will come along on any of this stuff before the GC expires. And I have to keep telling myself that I really only paid a THIRD of that. I'll get my $82.72 value out of it. The Blade XXL t-shirt went OOS as I was checking out, otherwise I would have paid 4 bucks out of pocket. They don't have any XL, and L would be too small. So I guess I'm done with ordering from Full Moon, unless free shipping returns next year. I won't use real money to pay those crazy prices! If I see them at a convention, they always blow stuff out on the last day, so I can wait for those to get my Full Moon bargains in the future...

Re: Full Moon 50% off Sale (2-13-13) - (2-18-13)

^ I know what you mean. Technically, I'm only out around $75 on this order. Still, that's about $10 over what I felt was a good deal -- regardless of the $225 price tag someone without an Evergreen card would be paying for the same stuff. I ended up leaving a few cents on the gift card, as adding another movie would have increased the total by over $7 and that's more than I'm willing to spend on a DVD.

Anyway, I went ahead a submitted the order. I really wanted at least ONE Puppet Master replica and was afraid it might sell out if I waited. If the Full Moon crew hear the complaints (and their FB is full of them right now) and decide to lower the shipping rates/offer a cheaper alternative, I'll contact them about refunding the difference.

Re: Full Moon 50% off Sale (2-13-13) - (2-18-13)

They are fixing the shipping. Standard Shipping is now showing as an option. Unfortunately I had already placed my order earlier. I just called them and spoke with Ian. He is going to try to change my shipping. It would go from $60.65 down to $31.01. Still ain't cheap, but it is MUCH more acceptable. But he couldn't change it immediately. He has to call the shipping department, and he'll get back to me tomorrow.

What are the terms of that sale, usually? Are there any free shipping deals on the horizon? 4th of July, maybe?

Like kenbenobi, I called and spoke to someone at Full Moon about changing the shipping rates on my order. If the difference gets refunded, I won't really want to use the remaining credit on this sale. A single DVD would cost around $12 even with "standard shipping" if I placed a new order for it. A free shipping offer would be a better deal if I need to use up $15 worth of credit after the shipping difference is refunded.

Re: Full Moon 50% off Sale (2-13-13) - (2-18-13)

Valentines Day is typically their biggest sale (usually 50% + free shipping).

Other sales are generally 30-40% off without free shipping. Although sometimes individual items will go lower than that.

I just put my order in and although it sucks that the charge shipping they do seem to have fixed the calculator somewhat. It only charged me 30ish instead of the 60+ it was showing prior to the sale.

Edit:

Last Halloween's Sale

* All DVDs only $6.66!
* All blu rays only $13.13!
* All box sets are 50% off.
* A special offer on Retro Puppet Master replicas (Cyclops, Dr. Death, and Drill Sergeant) are only $120 each
* And a special offer on three classic puppets from the series... Get the Replica 3 Pack (Red Blade, Stealth Six Shooter, Stealth Pinhead) for only $500.00 total!
