Seeing reports the legendary British director has died at age 77.

Rest in peace to the man who gave us one Bronson gem after another, most notably Death Wish and its insanely awesome sequel, Death Wish 3. Thanks for all the carnage!

I've coincidentally been on a Death Wish kick. Watched 1 again and watched 2 for the first time a couple of days ago because I was leading up to part 3 which I hear good things about. RIP Winner

Didn't realize he directed The Nightcomers with Brando. He worked with a lot of great talent across a span of 4 decades.

Similar to Bronson in the 70s-80s, he partnered with Oliver Reed on a string of movies in the 60s.

He directed 'Lawman'. That's my favorite film he directed, and I would also say his best film by far.

I'll Never Forget What's'isname is terrific, and his commentary on the Anchor Bay DVD is great as well. I have the DVD of The Girl-Getters and need to watch it soon.

I went to one Winner film after another in the 1970s, most with Bronson. My favorites remain SCORPIO, a CIA thriller with Burt Lancaster and Alain Delon, and THE STONE KILLER, a New York-to-L.A. police thriller with Bronson. The first DEATH WISH is pretty damn good, too. A quintessential piece of 1970s genre filmmaking.

For those that subscribe to the genre magazine Cinema Retro, they had a great interview with Winner several years back. Looks like it was included in issue #2. I no longer subscribe, but recall this being a great read when I did.

A couple interesting articles from Winner's memoirs surfaced last week here and here.

The first goes into some detail about his endless pursuit of women and the second shares some stories about celebrity friends of his (Bronson, Caine, Connery, etc.). Worth checking out.
