I can't believe they renewed this but canceled Hung.

^ Yeah, strange. HBO must have canceled Hung and Bored to Death in favor of some new blood (Enlightened, Girls). Guess they're hoping these newer shows find an audience since Hung & BtD already had their chance. I suspect the newer shows have a smaller budget as well (not sure).

I bailed on this after one episode last year.

Laura Dern did win a Golden Globe award. So that certainly helped it getting renewed over Hung.

I have never despised the main character of a show and continued watching it, but here I am for season 2.

I never thought I would get into this type of show, but I have to say Season 1 was pretty good, and I enjoyed the first episode of Season 2 last night. Since it's an only a half hour show, I can find time during the week to watch it from DVR, as I am anxious to see where the story is headed this season.

Re: Enlightened -- Season 2 -- Sundays (HBO)

I'm a bit tired of the constant focus on Abadonn and it's employees. The best stuff from the first season was the volatile relationship between Amy and Luke Wilson's character. Anyone know if he's scheduled to make any appearances this season? It's sad watching this show and then looking at this thread. You just know that nobody is watching it and it is surely going to get cancelled. I hope Tyler gets to fuck before that happens, at this point the poor guy deserves it.

Glowing review of season 2 from Maureen Ryan here. Worth a read.

Re: Enlightened -- Season 2 -- Sundays (HBO)

The Amy character has to be one of the most frustrating and unlikeable characters on TV or film. She's very delusional and every waking second she's only thinking about herself. I just want to bitch-slap her.

I disagree about her relationship with her ex (Luke Wilson) - I didn't find that stuff very interesting at all.

I'll continue to watch, but I hope the show goes much further this season and takes the story away from the basement department and maybe onto a new job/location.

This show has never been better. They turned Amy's annoying factor down several notches and the show is better for it. The whole season has just been a joy to watch. I'm especially a fan of Dougie, that guy cracks me up. I'm glad Luke Wilson is back, as we should have a pretty interesting finish to the season now.

Agreed, this season has been golden. My favorite has probably been the Luke-centered episode from a few weeks ago that took place in Hawaii. Overall, a strong improvement from season 1.

I agree that Dougie is the best character on the show. I really enjoy this show, but good God Laura Dern's character is so frickin annoying sometimes. I have to say she has great chemistry with her mom, as I just found out that is her real mom.

Good season finale. Leaves alot of open questions for next year.

Re: Enlightened -- Season 2 -- Sundays (HBO)

Amy Jellicoe’s path to enlightenment may continue, but not on your TV screen.

HBO has cancelled Mike White and Laura Dern’s critically adored-yet-ratings challenged dramedy Enlightened, Buzzfeed reports.

The pay cabler has yet to officially confirm the news.

More to come…

Re: Enlightened -- Season 2 -- Sundays (HBO)

Not surprised. The show was ok, but I really didn't see this getting much of a following.

At least the end of the season truly felt like a series finale in many ways. There's some redemption for a very unlikeable and selfish character. I really didn't see how this series could last many seasons, and with them ending this season the way they did - they really had nowhere to go.

I suspect this show will make a few critics Top 10 lists this year. Too bad HBO cancelled it.

Re: Enlightened -- Season 2 -- Sundays (HBO)

Finally HBO comes to their senses. After the massacre last year, they kept the one show (with the lowest ratings) they thought might be compatible with Girls...but Girls' ratings are pretty terrible either way.

Re: Enlightened -- Season 2 -- Sundays (HBO)

I thought this was a good show, but I think it just didn't have that hook to attract new viewers. I happened to stumble across when HBO had a marathon after Season 1, and I was suprised how much I enjoyed it. But it was hard for me to recommend it to people cause I really didn't know how to sell it to them because it didn't have a specific genre to it.

Re: Enlightened -- Season 2 -- Sundays (HBO)

^ Yeah, difficult show to describe and no big names to draw casual viewers to it. A tough sell -- am kind of surprised it lasted the 2 seasons.

I kept recommending this show to people, and most of them just weren't interested. I loved this show. So good!!!

Seems like Bored to Death would have been a better companion to Girls.
