Modern Family -- "Diamond in the Rough" -- 12/12/12
Synopsis:
"Diamond in the Rough" - Manny and Luke's little league team unexpectedly makes it into a playoff game, so Claire and Cameron scramble to find a location and decide to do a makeover on a rundown field. Inspired, Claire and Cam want to try their hand at flipping a house while they're at it, and Phil and Mitchell fight over who will be the bad guy to tell them no. Meanwhile, Gloria tries a bonding technique by using a microphone to sing to the baby in utero, which definitely incites a reaction from Jay, on "Modern Family," WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12 (9:00-9:31 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

I enjoyed this episode a great deal. Loved it when Mitchel chased after the car and Phil kept Claire distracted.

This one was gold beginning to end.
Claire (to Cam, who's pushing a chalker to mark the baseball field's foul lines): "Why does your friend have a chalker?"
Cam: "Oh, he used it to propose to a skywriter."
Pure genius. Line of the year.

"Wow they did a great job. Except for that little bump over there."

Was this the first episode where one of the family doesn't make a single appearance (excluding Lilly -- which I am more than happy to do)? Alex wasn't in this ep at all was she? Maybe Haley missed an ep during her stint in college that I'm already forgetting about.

What's interesting is how Haley is getting just about as much time now that she's home as when she was in college. This is the first ep. I can remember without Alex, maybe it was Ariel Winter's personal life that kept her out of this one.
Funny ep., though I think they are overplaying the whole "Gloria is annoying" aspect.

I loved the singing.
I've seen people saying this show has lost a step, and while I can sort of see that, I find the current episodes to still be really great. Or maybe I can't tell the difference as I've watched the whole series in the last 3 weeks.

Figured that Gloria's awful singing was being done on purpose to get Jay to be more involved, so I was surprised when it didn't turn out that way at all.
