I guess it doesn't make sense that I'm starting this thread because I haven't finished a single play-through of any 2012 games I own (which is about a dozen games).

That being said, I'm interested to see what others have as their favorites this year.

Halo 4. I played through the campaign twice and the multiplayer is as solid as ever.
Borderlands 2. They made a great game even better. The writing was brilliant.
Diablo 3. Played through twice but gave up on the Hell difficulty. Still a great game.

Skyrim -- I know it came out in 2011 but I didn't play it until this year. I've put in over 120 hours and still currently playing.

Batman Arkham City -- again 2011 but I really enjoyed it.

Assassin's Creed 3 -- still have this to get through and so far this would definitely win the "most disappointing release of 2012" award.

Sleeping Dogs is my number 1. Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3 are up there. Black Ops 2 MP is also up there, but the SP was shit....

Walking Dead was really good. Corpse Party on PSP was really interesting. Dark Souls is great, still going on that. Fallout 3 GOTY has been a lot of fun too. Finally got to Dragon Age 2 this year. So much potential and a lot of good stuff going on but really needed at least another year of dev to flesh everything out. The repeated assets were a real downer.

Yup, only one of those is '12, I'm way behind the curve. Walking Dead wins by default .

Halo 4 was easily my GOTY. The campaign was short but entertaining, Spartan Ops is a good way to pass some time, and multiplayer is awesome.

Forza Horizon is a close second. That game really took me by surprise after I was about to dismiss it as a NFS rip off, but I enjoyed it more then Most Wanted.

I'll also throw SSX in there. I know it didn't sell well but I enjoyed that game a lot and still need to put more time into it.

There are also a number of games in my unplayed pile that I can't comment on (Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs, Max Payne 3, etc) that may have made the list, but they will have to wait until next year

I would have to go with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare as my game of the year. Best MP I've played in a long, long while.

I also picked up Hotline: Miami recently, and that game is very fun and addicting. Not sure if I'd put it with the best of the year, but it's up there.

i haven't played alot of new games this year, but I will go with:


Diablo 3

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition -- Dark Souls is a 2011 game, but the PC game was released August 2012. I think it qualifies technically


this could change -- I have Halo 4, Sleeping Dogs, and Dishonored coming from Santa Claus.



Did you avoid the gold auction house in Diablo 3? What class did you use?

I dabbled in the gold auction house some but felt it was tedious and took me out of the game. I never touched the real money auction house.

As far as games that were released this year (I tend to buy games about a year after they get released) that I got a chance to play I would go with Darkness II (story is amazing), and XCOM: Enemy Unknown (gameplay and anthill concept is difficult but so rewarding). I liked Borderlands 2 a ton to begin with but my appreciation of it has dwindled considerably. The only other game I can think of with high marks is Lego Batman 2 which me and wifey just started.
