What movie/film series are you surprised never had a sequel or another movie?
Thought this was a legitimate question to ask.
My list includes off the top of my head:
Code of Silence (Chuck Norris): This IMO was begging for a sequel. Chuck played a badass Chicago cop who took on the Mob by himself.
SWAT: Why did this never get a sequel? The DTV sequel with Gabriel Macht doesn't count.
The A-Team
Another Fantastic Four sequel with the original cast (Chiklis, Alba, Evans etc)
Eraser
Dredd ( will never get a sequel actually)
Death Wish series: Another sequel to give proper closure to the Paul Kersey saga. Death Wish V ended with Kersey on the run yet again.
Cannonball Run: Didn't Part II end on a cliffhanger?
What else can you guys think of?

E.T.
When a movie makes that much and Universal doesn't run it into the ground, it's a minor miracle.

I know why they didn't do a whole franchise; but still, a "The Golden Compass" series would've been nice. I think they would've been better than the corny "Narnia" films.

No Indepedence Day sequel is the biggest head scratcher in modern film history.

Friday the 13th (the re-boot version produced by Michael Bay)
Also, I was surprised there wasn't a direct follow up to Halloween 5 since it ended on a cliffhanger. Instead it took 6 years and studio change for a shitty sequel to be released that pretty much had nothing to do with the last movie.
Of course, Halloween H20 wiped out those movies from the series timeline.

It's all about money.
Basically any movie that you can think of a sequel plot for that would make a lot of money. Princess Bride, E.T. & True Lies all fit that bill.
Stuff like The Golden Compass that tries to jumpstart a franchise but bombs...there's no surprise there are no sequels because it would never get financing only to lose money. Speaking of which it's a terrible shame that Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World will never have a sequel.

Edit: I just checked BoxOfficeMojo.com and it cost $110M to make and only grossed $77M in the U.S., but made $100M internationally. I guess those numbers killed any sequel talk.

This one doesn't surprise me because it wasn't really a hit when it was first released. It grossed $30 million in 1987, placing it 41 on the rankings for that year. It took many years to build a following.
Independence Day is my answer. It was a huge hit, and is the sort of premise that could be milked again (perhaps with upgraded computer security on the aliens' part this time).

As for H5, totally agree. I remember watching that on VHS as a kid and DYING to see where the whole 'Man in Black' story was going. Answer: nowhere.

F13th could've had a sequel if it didn't plunge approx. 80% in its second weekend. Honestly, as much as I want more Jason adventures - and we'll get them one day - I want PD as far away from my horror franchises as possible.

If New Line, Paramount really wanted to, they could have greenlit another movie for around the same budget.
