The Pioneer DV525 is reputed to be one of the best at reading dirty/scratched disks.

I can confirm that the pioneer 525 is quite good at reading scratched up rental discs. I've yet to have any rentals glitch, and believe me, I've had some gggggaaawdawwwwful looking discs. Whoever the dude is out there who eats cheetos while sanding the rental discs....yer going down buddy! heh

I found that the Toshiba 3109 had some problems on occasion with scratched/dirty discs, but is otherwise a very good player.

all that about the 525 is good to hear but lately i've having a lot of problems with my 525... it skips at certain dvds (and it's more than a couple) but it's just a split second skip. but besides that it won't even play my T2 dvd at all...
but other than i think it's a good player (i guess)

try some toothpaste or some car polish to help lessen the scratch. Then it should play on anything.

choiboi... the 525 wont play T2 at all? is this on yours only, or ALL 525s? I just got a 525, and i have T2 [which i watch once every week or so...]... that's gonna suck if it wont play it at all! what did you do as a workaround [or do u just watch it elsewhere?]
