Wal-Mart will be starting its Black Friday, Thursday 8PM.

I don't have a problem with that as a consumer. If I were on the other end, then yes.

I'm fuzzy by the article, are buys going active at different times? When does media go on sale?

Yes, the special buys are being staggered. The media sale starts at the first sale, which is 8pm on Thursday.

Asus has a good rep as a longtime premium motherboard manufacturer,
Lenovo tends to mostly do low end entry level.

No, they'll only do tickets for the very limited quantity big ticket items. For stuff like your $40 blu-ray player, they usually have a large stack of them, so, as long as you get there within the first few hours, you should be fine getting it.
