Synopsis:

Spoiler:
2 BROKE GIRLS is a comedy about two young women waitressing at a greasy spoon diner who strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of launching a successful business - if only they can raise the cash. Sassy, streetwise Max Black works two jobs just to get by, one of which is waiting tables during the night shift at the retro-hip Williamsburg Diner. Sophisticated Caroline Channing is an uptown trust fund princess who's having a run of bad luck that forces her to reluctantly give waitressing a shot. At first, Max sees Caroline as yet another in a long line of inept servers she must cover for, but she's surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style. When Caroline discovers Max's knack for baking amazing cupcakes, she sees a lucrative future for them, but they first need to raise the start-up money. While they save their tips, they'll stay at the restaurant, working with Oleg, an overly flirtatious Russian cook; Earl, a 75-year-old kool-kat cashier; and Han Lee, the new, eager-to-please owner of the diner. Working together, these two broke girls living in one expensive city might just find the perfect recipe for their big break.

I'm not crazy about the new sitcoms premiering this season, but this is one of the few that interest me.

She does have kind of a hot white trash appeal judging by her look and costume on this show.

Interesting that Whitney Cummings wrote/created this show while also starring in her own show on another network (which she also created). They're even done by two different studios. I imagine her input on this show is going to be a little less than on Whitney, but hey, if that show tanks, she's got a backup.

Just the promo was enough to keep me away ..... several totally unfunny lines capped by adding tasteless (Stephen Hawking line) to unfunny.

Re: 2 Broke Girls -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/19/11

Is it just me or do most people here despise multi-camera, shot on a soundstage comedies with laugh track?

Does every sitcom have to be like The Office or Modern Family....single-cam, shot on location with a multiple sets for you to enjoy it?

I'm willing to give this a shot, but I'm not going to write it off right away because of that production criteria.

edited after correction

DJariya, I think you have the descriptions reversed. The Office and Modern Family are considered to be single camera shows. Shows like Big Bang Theory, Two and Half Men, and Two Broke Girls are multi-camera shows.

No but they need to be funny and these types of sitcoms so rarely are.
Can anyone seriously watch the promos for this and not cringe?

I was only going to watch this because of Denning (yes, I'm a DOM), but I've read more than a few good reviews for this show, which is shocking consdering the preview looks bad. Real bad.

I didn't like the promos either. But Kat Dennings rack + the generally positive reviews means I'll check it out. It's on a short leash though.

I'm a fan of Kat Dennings' juggs, but that face of hers is quite rough.

I like Kat Dennings and all, but this show is the kind that gets canned quick. This seems to really like playing modern stereotypes to the max and double entendres for all they're worth.

Re: 2 Broke Girls -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/19/11

I have to say, this show would have worked better had they done it as an HBO series like King's Sex and the City. I feel the potential is watered down by network constraints. Gone by mid-season, lucky if it makes it all year.

Re: 2 Broke Girls -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/19/11

I've got mixed feelings. I actually think the premise of the show has promise; sort of like The Odd Couple with a modern, working girl twist. And both of the leads play very well off of one another.

Kat Dennings was the main reason I tuned into the show and she definitely didn't disappoint. She's playing it more or less as I expected, but it's nice to see they're giving her a bit of depth since her schtick might get a little bit old after a while.

I had never seen Beth Behrs in anything before and wasn't quite sure what to expect from her, but I think she was just as good as Dennings. And again, they did a nice job making her more than just a caricature of a rich blonde girl. In fact, it was refreshing to see that she was intelligent and willing to work hard, since it would've been very easy to make her a typical bimbo.

Two of the biggest problems I noticed so far are that the supporting cast seems a bit one-dimensional and sometimes the writers went for the easy sitcom joke, rather than opting for the intelligent joke or satire. I don't necessarily mind the laugh-track, I just don't think it really brings anything to the table for this show; sort of like how it feels unnecessary and out of place on How I Met Your Mother. Really though, that's secondary to the easy jokes and weak supporting cast. But, that might just be a case of the show and its writers finding their footing in the Pilot. I can't help but think this show is on the wrong network too; HBO or FX or even FOX seem as though they'd have given the show a bit more creative freedom.
