I'm really excited for this tonight. I hope that if season eight is the last one that the writers really knock these last two seasons out of the park. The last couple of seasons (especially season five) have been pretty good but overall not quite as good as the first four. From the synopsis though

I really hated, hated the "OMG I'm in love with my brother" bit last year. But it makes sense, I guess, that they had to shake up her character prior to the big finale reveal, and give her extra emotional roadblocks to turning him in.

Still, the notion of the chief of police becoming an accomplice to the bay harbor butcher is a bit, shall we say, campy?

I still didn't think the last season was that bad really. I think the big problem that the show has had is there's been a "big bad" villain every season essentially and the formula was just getting sort of tired. That coupled with the fact that a lot of us saw the twist coming last year and instead of getting something the writers thought was clever was too easy to predict.

Was there something I missed with the chief of police helping Dexter? I don't think he was even in this episode. Refresh my memory, did he lose his job after that hooker died last season when she was with him? Did Deb reveal that it was him?

Not at all; my bad; I was still referring to Debra after her promotion. Not chief, just... boss.

I thought it was a great premier, and I'm glad they wasted no time in making sure Deb knew that Dexter was a serial killer. So many places this season could go. I'm looking forward to see what happens between Deb and Dexter, and what the plot with the Ukrainians is about.
